International Heritage Internship- J-1 - Museum Services at Biltmore

Job Summary

The International Heritage Intern will familiarize themselves with Biltmore's operations as a major cultural heritage destination and undertake a project under curatorial supervision in alignment with Biltmore's mission and core values.

The 2026 summer intern will be tasked with gathering data on-site, researching other heritage precedents, and compiling recommendations to further Biltmore's operations in support of the guest experience, inclusivity, and community.

This position will rely on research ability, willingness to learn, and experience with or knowledge of interpretation at heritage sites/museums.

Essential Job Duties

• Experience Biltmore's current interpretive offerings.
• Receive basic training in object handling, archival methods specific to the institution, collections software management systems, and more.
• Research best practices in the museum and interpretation fields for improving a specific facet of the guest experience or operation, to be determined at the beginning of the internship.
• Compile and present findings to Museum Services and other relevant department representatives at the conclusion of the internship.
  
  

Additional Job Duties

The scope of work is flexible depending on personal areas of interest, but it will be clearly defined between the intern and Curator prior to or at the beginning of the internship.

Intern will provide general support and assistance to the department, leadership, and company as required.

Qualifications

This graduate-level student will be required to have completed all compulsory models and undertaken a placement relevant to their degree in International Heritage Management at the University of Birmingham.

Physical Requirements

The intern will need the ability to stand, sit, walk, and climb stairs. Ability to use a computer is required. Accommodations may be possible. No heavy lifting will be required.
