Purpose and Scope
The Paint Supervisor & Specialist is responsible for overseeing all aspects of industrial painting operations at Sage Oil Vac. This role combines hands-on technical expertise in surface preparation, paint application, and inspection with leadership responsibilities for supervising paint team members. The specialist ensures compliance with customer specifications, safety regulations, and Sage Oil Vac’s quality management system (ISO 9001:2015).

The Paint Supervisor & Specialist is responsible for overseeing all aspects of industrial painting operations at Sage Oil Vac. This role combines hands-on technical expertise in surface preparation, paint application, and inspection with leadership responsibilities for supervising paint team members. The specialist ensures compliance with customer specifications, safety regulations, and Sage Oil Vac’s quality management system (ISO 9001:2015).
Key Responsibilities
Painting & Quality Assurance:
- Perform and oversee surface preparation, mixing, application, and curing of industrial paints on trucks, skids, tanks, and trailers.
- Conduct film thickness, surface profile, adhesion, and environmental condition readings to verify compliance.
- Ensure paint work meets standards and customer contract requirements.
- Identify and prevent paint defects (e.g., sagging, pinholes, fisheyes, blistering).
- Document all inspections and maintain accurate paint records for internal and customer use.
- Supervise and mentor a team of paint technicians and helpers.
- Assign work, monitor progress, and ensure jobs are completed safely, on schedule, and to quality standards.
- Train team members on proper painting techniques, safety practices, and use of spray equipment.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Enforce compliance with OSHA, EPA, and Sage Oil Vac safety standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe paint booth and work area.
- Ensure proper PPE use, hazard communication, and ventilation protocols are followed.
- Participate in audits and corrective action initiatives related to paint operations.
Required
- 5+ years of experience in industrial painting application and inspection.
- Knowledge of SSPC, ASTM, and ISO standards for surface preparation and paint application.
- Strong skills in spray equipment setup, operation, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and work orders.
- Proficiency with paint measurement tools (film thickness gauges, hygrometers, surface profile gauges).
- Demonstrated leadership experience supervising paint crews.
- Experience painting large fabricated assemblies such as trucks, skids, and trailers.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001:2015 quality management systems.
- Forklift, manlift, or other equipment certifications.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
