Job Description
Work requires knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts acquired through completion of a PharmD from an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy. New Jersey State Pharmacist Licensure. Successful completion of both a Post Graduate Year 1 (PGY1) and a Post Graduate Year 2 (PGY2) pharmacy residency or 3 to 6 years of progressive hospital clinical pharmacy experience. Work requires understanding of medical conditions, treatment goals, treatment drugs and protocols including but not limited to anticoagulation, asthma, COPD, diabetes, CHF, hypertension and pneumonia. Work requires providing comprehensive clinical pharmacy services including pharmacokinetics and therapeutic consultations in the one or more of the associated specialized areas: pediatrics, trauma, infectious diseases, emergency medicine, oncology, pain management, transitions of care, psychology, cardiology and/or intensive care units. New hires are required to complete Board Certification in pharmacotherapy (BCPS) or other specialty within 2 years from the date of hire. New hires have one year from the date of hire to receive Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications

St. Joseph’s University Medical Center is an academic tertiary care medical center and state designated trauma center, located on the Paterson campus, regularly accepts referrals of difficult or unusual cases from other hospitals and physicians and performs both complex and routine procedures.
The Medical Center offers a full complement of specialty and subspecialty services including ambulatory, behavioral health, cardiovascular, emergency/trauma, internal medicine, neuroscience, oncology, orthopedic/spine, rehabilitation, surgical specialty, women’s health, imaging and pediatrics.

- Responsible for assisting in the maintenance of clinical pharmacotherapy programs and services aimed at optimizing therapeutic management for patients at SJUMC and SJWMC. Responsible for delivering direct patient care with a focus on medication therapy management and collaborating closely with other healthcare professionals including nurses and physicians to ensure comprehensive care. Key responsibilities include evaluating patients' medication needs, monitoring progress, and ensuring the safe, effective, and appropriate use of medications across various disease states. Responsible for assisting the Clinical Pharmacy Manager and the Inpatient Acute Care Pharmacy Director in the oversight and execution of all clinical pharmacy activities, in addition to supporting quality improvement and quality assurance initiatives related to the delivery of pharmaceutical care. Responsible for planning, organizing, analyzing, and compiling the facility’s medication utilization programs as necessary, and assisting in the implementation of cost-containment strategies, ensuring continuous monitoring for compliance and performance outcomes.
- Responsible for providing clinical information and guidance to physicians, pharmacy personnel, healthcare providers, and patients. Responsible for pharmacy staff education, ensuring the ongoing development of competency within the department. Regularly offers and receives constructive feedback regarding pharmacy practice and patient care issues with the aim of maintaining a high-level practice.
- The individual in this role will also participate in various committees and projects as assigned and will be expected to perform other duties as deemed appropriate by the Clinical Pharmacy Manager and the Inpatient Acute Care Pharmacy Director.
