Position Summary: The Astronomy Programs Presenter is responsible for leading public Planetarium and Observatory presentations and assists the Astronomy Programs Manager with school planetarium presentations and overall department logistics as needed.

Position Summary: The Astronomy Programs Presenter is responsible for leading public Planetarium and Observatory presentations and assists the Astronomy Programs Manager with school planetarium presentations and overall department logistics as needed.
Specific Responsibilities
- Gives planetarium or observatory presentations at specific agreed upon times.
- Presents astronomy-based school programs as needed.
- Performs maintenance on Planetarium equipment (as assigned) and physical environment. Performs maintenance on Observatory (as assigned).
- Supervises Planetarium volunteers when needed. Substitutes for Planetarium volunteers or other staff.
- Assists with Astronomy Department special events.
- Ensures workspace is clean and clear of clutter consistent with Museum and department operations and safety procedures.
- Contributes to a positive guest experience by greeting and addressing any questions when encountering guests as they navigate through the Museum and Sea Center.
- Support the Museum’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion for fellow staff, guests and the community.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Working knowledge of astronomy.
- Excellent public speaking skills.
- Ability to present to and manage groups of school students.
- Ability to interact with the public and different age groups.
- Experience teaching astronomy to a variety of age groups.
- Experience operating a Planetarium and/software programming.
- Fluent in Spanish, a plus.
- This is an onsite position. No remote work.
- General office environment with computer work.
- Frequent work in the Museum’s Gladwin Planetarium which is indoors and dimly lit.
- Some work outdoors.
- Occasional evening shifts.
- Significant sitting, standing, bending, climbing stairs and walking.
- Occasional lifting of moderate loads (up to 25 lbs.).
- 20/20 corrected eyesight.
