We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our dynamic finance team. This role is pivotal in ensuring the accuracy of the month-end close activities and financial reporting. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting knowledge, expertise in payroll systems, and a proven ability to meet tight deadlines while maintaining high attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end revenue cycle operations, including charge entry, claims submission, payment posting, denials management, and accounts receivable follow-up.
- Oversee billing for behavioral health services (e.g., ABA, psychotherapy, assessments, group services), including CPT/HCPCS coding and modifiers.
- Ensure compliance with Medi-Cal, commercial payer contracts, DMHC, CMS, HIPAA, and California billing regulations.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate billing staff; establish productivity and quality benchmarks.
- Monitor payer trends, denials, underpayments, and audits; implement corrective action plans.
- Collaborate with clinical, intake, and authorization teams to resolve documentation and authorization issues.
- Prepare and analyze billing and A/R reports; present key metrics to leadership.
- Support payer audits, recoupments, and appeals.
- Maintain and improve billing workflows, internal controls, and written procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 5 years of medical billing experience, including 2+ years in a supervisory or management role.
- Demonstrated experience in behavioral health billing (ABA and/or mental health strongly preferred).
- Strong knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10, and payer authorization requirements.
- Experience with EHR and billing systems; advanced Excel skills preferred.
- Ability to interpret payer contracts and reimbursement methodologies.
- Experience with California Medi-Cal managed care plans.
- Familiarity with multi-site or multi-program behavioral health organizations.
- CPC, CPB, or similar certification.
- Ability to work onsite in an office environment.
- Prolonged periods of sitting and computer use.
- Occasional lifting of files or materials up to 15 pounds.
