Job Description And Duties

Patton State Hospital, Human Resources Department is accepting applications for at least (1) Permanent, Full-Time appointment to the Carpenter I position. This vacancy exists in the Facility Operations Department and is under the direction of the Carpenter Supervisor. Carpenters shall be responsible for carpentry duties hospital wide.

A successful incumbent will have knowledge and experience including, but not limited to, estimating labor and material costs; keeping simple records and reports, maintaining accurate record keeping; instructing and leading unskilled assistants; knowledgeable of principles, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the carpentry industry; maintaining and adhering to tool control policy and procedures; reading blueprints, working from plans and specifications; adhering to all safety and security policies and procedures; and knowledgeable of building, construction and safety codes applicable to the carpentry industry.

Additional requirements include ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, good interpersonal skills, dependability, ability to follow directions and complete assigned tasks, ability to work well with others and promote and maintain positive and effective work relationships, completion of Carpenter Apprenticeship or equivalent experience. The Department of State Hospitals provides support services to facilities operated within the Department. The required function of this position is to consistently provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.

The employee is required to work any shift and schedule in a variety of settings and security areas throughout the hospital and may be required to work overtime and float to other work locations as determined by the operational needs of the hospital. All employees are required to have an annual health review and repeat health reviews whenever necessary to ascertain that they are free from symptoms indicating the presence of infection and can safely perform their essential job functions.
