PACT (Program for Assertive Community Treatment) is an intensive and highly integrated approach for community mental health service delivery. The multidisciplinary team shares a caseload of individuals who experience symptoms of the most serious forms of mental illness, predominantly but not exclusively the schizophrenia spectrum disorders. Many individuals also experience substance abuse, victimization and trauma, psychiatric hospitalizations, arrests and incarceration, homelessness, and additional significant challenges. The symptoms and complications of mental illnesses lead to serious functioning difficulties in several areas of life, often including work, social relationships, residential independence, money management, and physical health and wellness.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Position Summary
The Mental Health Advocate provides supportive counseling and case management services to adult behavioral health clients under the direction of a licensed professional. Supportive counseling may include symptom management and skills training using behavioral principles and a structured session approach. Case management includes care coordination, resource identification and development, advocacy, service monitoring and follow-up, collateral supports.

However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant’s years of experience align.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team including mental health professionals, nurses, prescribers, peer counselors, SUD specialists, and vocational staff.
- Deliver recovery-oriented services such as case management, treatment planning, resource assistance, crisis intervention, and group/individual services.
- Assist clients in identifying and accessing resources and collaborate with community resources on behalf of clients.
- Assist clients in the development of healthy coping mechanisms in individual or group settings.
- Conduct risk assessments, develop and implement safety plans, and provide crisis intervention and stabilization services as needed, including facilitating access to inpatient facilities for behavioral health care.
- Provide ongoing support to clients in their homes and community environments.
- Participate in the 24/7 on-call rotation and deliver after-hours support as needed.

Responsibilities
- Serves as a consumer advocate in relation to the mental health system, community agencies, and the consumer’s support system, as needed.
- Provides person-centered supportive counseling, assessment of needs/risk, skills training, advocacy and case management for clients
- Assists in developing problem-focused, goal-oriented treatment plans which address the specific needs of the consumer and specific anticipated clinical outcomes.
- Provides comprehensive community support activities to assigned caseload, including assistance in identifying and utilizing community resources, liaison with other agencies and organizations, referral to appropriate community programs, completion of all necessary reports.
- Maintains consumer records in keeping with Agency, County, and State guidelines.
- Coordinates discharge planning, including referral to appropriate agencies for ongoing needs.
- Must obtain Washington State Agency Affiliated Counselor registration within 90 days of placement in job, unless a higher credential is held
- Driver License/Abstract
- One (1) year of experience working with seriously and persistently mentally ill adults or in a Behavioral Health setting preferred
