Role Overview
The Junior Designer role will be responsible for developing new furniture concepts, refining designs through iterative development, collaborating closely with our craftspeople and internal creative team. This role blends artistic and historical sensitivity with technical rigor and requires an individual who is comfortable moving between hand sketching, digital modeling, and hands-on material experimentation.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Concept Development
- Generate original furniture concepts aligned with the studio’s creative direction
- Produce hand sketches, mood boards, material studies, and 3D concept models
- Participate in ideation sessions and contribute to the studio’s ongoing design language
- Develop precise 3D models in Rhino
- Create detailed technical drawings, shop drawings, and specifications for fabrication
- Prepare visual presentations for internal review and client presentations
- Prototyping & Fabrication Collaboration
- Work hands-on with prototypes, including foam models, mock-ups, and scale studies
- Coordinate with artisans, fabricators and suppliers to ensure design accuracy and quality
- Conduct material research and testing to support new approaches in construction and finishing
- Project Coordination
- Manage timelines and deliverables for individual design projects
- Communicate design intent clearly with internal and external collaborators
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Furniture Design, Industrial Design, Fine Arts or a related field
- 3-5 years of experience working in Furniture Design, Architecture, Interior Architecture or a related field
- Strong proficiency in Rhino and Adobe Creative Suite
- Demonstrated portfolio showcasing creative furniture or object design through hand sketching, painting, collage, 3D Modeling
- Understanding of fabrication processes including woodworking, metalwork, joinery, and finishing
- Ability to move fluidly between conceptual thinking and technical execution
- Strong aesthetic sensibility and material literacy
- Experience working with artisan fabricators or in a custom furniture studio
- Rendering/visualization experience
- Knowledge of CNC, digital fabrication, or advanced manufacturing method
- Familiarity with sustainability principles in design and materials sourcing
- Highly creative
- Detail-oriented, organized, and self-driven
- Comfortable in a fast-paced and evolving studio environment
- Great communication skills and team collaboration abilities
- Eager to explore new materials, forms, and production techniques
