The CDPH’s Richmond Campus is a 29-acre property housing over 1,200 employees, located in Richmond’s Marina Bay and just minutes from the El Cerrito Del Norte and Richmond BART stations, with free shuttle service between the campus and the El Cerrito Del Norte BART station. Job Description And Duties

Post & Bid: This classification is subject to the Post and Bid process. Applications from a certification list, transfer change in class, reinstatement, re-employment, and training and development assignment candidates will be accepted for this position but consistent with the MOU/Bargaining Agreement BU12 contract cannot be acted upon unless the Post & Bid process does not result in a hire.


This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by independently performing a wide variety of skilled maintenance tasks in support of Plant Operations and Maintenance for the Richmond Laboratory Campus. The Maintenance Mechanic (MM) inspects, maintains, and repairs plumbing, heating, water, and sewer systems; does electrical maintenance and repair work; repairs laundry, shop, and other equipment; does miscellaneous minor building construction and repair work; does miscellaneous interior and exterior painting; refinishes furniture; estimates and requisitions materials and supplies; keeps tools and equipment in good condition; keeps records and prepares reports.


The MM works under the general direction of the Supervisor of Building Trades.


This classification is eligible for a recruitment and retention pay differential for the Greater Bay Area at 5% above the base rate for each qualifying pay period.


Eligibility Information

If you are new to California State Service, you must take and pass the examination for this classification to be eligible for hire. Current state employees without transfer or list eligibility must also complete and pass the examination for this classification to qualify for this position.


Telework Information

Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquarters office subject to regulations and bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the designated headquarters office will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
