Athena Health Care Systems is seeking a Director of Education and Clinical Programming to support our nursing home operations in Massachusetts.

This is an on-the-road position that requires the candidate to have an insured vehicle and be willing to travel to our 15 facilities. Bed sizes range from 57 to 196. Full-time salaried role with weekly pay, ranging from $114,400 to $124,800.

This role supports the planning, organizing, developing, and operation of the clinical and educational programming at Athena-managed facilities.

Experience & Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited school, college, or university of nursing. BSN preferred.
  • CPR certified.
  • Must possess an active and unencumbered RN license in Massachusetts.
  • Must have at least three (3) years of nursing experience, of which at least two (2) years in long-term care.
  • Experience with substance use disorders preferred.
  • At least one (1) year in a nursing management position such as Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing, Staff Development, etc.
  • Prior experience in nursing education preferred.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain staff educational programming to be used by all facilities/agencies and employees.
  • Provides support to facility staff for nursing-specific orientation and all staff orientation.
  • Monitor employee orientation completion and competency and follow up with employee and facility/agency staff to ensure required training is completed in a timely manner.
  • Utilize learning management system and educate necessary staff on the application and usage.
  • Schedule in-service training programs for staff, as needed.
  • Participate in the development and updating of policies and procedures.
  • Make written reports/recommendations to the Administrator/Executive Director as necessary concerning the performance of nursing leadership.
  • Evaluate the quality of the educational programming to determine effectiveness and areas of improvement.
  • Seek opportunities to streamline and simplify the orientation process while not diminishing the quality or purpose of the content.
  • Support the hiring and training of Directors of Staff Development and other nursing leadership positions, as needed.
  • Participate in mock survey.
  • Review reported clinical issues and monitor to identify care delivery/clinical skills and educational needs.


Specific Requirements:

  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  • Must be willing to travel to assigned facilities frequently.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such actions.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
  • Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long term care.
  • Must be knowledgeable in the privacy rule and ensure all staff comply with facility privacy practices policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to accommodate the needs of staff.
  • Must be able and willing to travel.
