Firefighter (Shift)
- Entry Level: $78,753 annually
- Step II: $90,004 annually (after successfully completing a 12-month probationary period)
- Step III: $100,129 annually
- Step IV: $112,504 annually
Firefighter Paramedic (Shift)
- Entry Level: $78,753 annually
- Step I: $91,360 annually (after successfully completing a 12-month probationary period)
- Step II: $110,900 annually
- Step III: $125,119 annually

Position Summary
Additional voluntary employee-elected benefits are also available.
Perform firefighting and rescue work in the protection of life and property from fire, accidents, natural disasters, and other emergency situations. Participate in fire prevention activities, emergency preparedness initiatives, training programs, equipment maintenance, and station maintenance activities.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Fire Suppression & Rescue
- Perform fire suppression activities involved in confining and extinguishing fires using appropriate gear, tools, and extinguishing agents.
- Participate in fire scene cleanup, salvage, and overhaul operations.
- Operate various-sized hand lines flowing at different gallons-per-minute rates, both independently and with assistance from other firefighters.
- Advance charged and uncharged hose lines into structures and up ladders.
- Respond to emergency incidents involving fires, rescues, accidents, and natural disasters.
Equipment & Apparatus Operations
- Operate firefighting apparatus and equipment.
- Use aerial apparatus, generators, air compressors, hoists, semi-automatic external defibrillators, saws, extrication tools, and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
- Maintain fire apparatus and firefighting equipment in a state of operational readiness.
Emergency Medical Services
- Provide pre-hospital emergency medical care to sick and injured individuals.
- Work collaboratively with ambulance contractor personnel, hospital staff, and the Medical Director.
- Perform emergency medical response duties in accordance with department protocols and certification requirements.
Training & Maintenance
- Participate in scheduled drills, classes, and individual study programs.
- Support emergency preparedness and fire prevention initiatives.
- Perform routine fire station and grounds maintenance.
Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma.
Special Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License or have the ability to obtain one upon residency.
- Must possess a valid State of Colorado EMT Certificate, National Registry EMT Certification, or Paramedic Certification.
- Paramedics are strongly encouraged to apply.
Working Conditions
Work is conducted both indoors and outdoors and includes exposure to:
- Extreme weather conditions
- Heat, sun, water, and temperature fluctuations
- Noise and vibration
- Smoke, fumes, gases, and poor ventilation
- Toxic substances including hydrogen cyanide, acids, carbon monoxide, and organic solvents
- Electrical hazards
- Carcinogenic dusts such as asbestos
- Contagious diseases
The Position Requires
- Heavy lifting and carrying (50 pounds and over)
- Standing, walking, pulling, pushing, crawling, bending, kneeling, and climbing
- Working at heights
- Operating in confined spaces
- Working on slippery or uneven surfaces
- Operating in high-noise and low-visibility environments
- Eye-hand coordination necessary to operate firefighting and rescue equipment
- Working under pressure in emergency and non-emergency situations
- Assuming incident command responsibilities when required
- Functioning both independently and as part of a team during incidents of uncertain duration
While assigned to a 48/96 shift schedule, employees may occasionally be required to work irregular or extended hours.
