Human Factors Program Engineer at General Motors
The Role
Researchers play a critical role in uncovering insights into user needs, attitudes, emotions, and behaviors to inform product and experience design. This role partners closely with Product Management, Design, and Engineering to ensure user insights directly shape product outcomes. You will work across multiple Software and Services teams, contributing at every stage of the product development lifecycle. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in mixed methods research and a passion for translating insights into meaningful user experiences.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and prioritize research initiatives that deliver actionable insights to inform product and experience decisions
- Plan and conduct end to end research across exploratory, generative, and evaluative phases for both hardware and software experiences
- Design and execute research using methods such as interviews, field studies, diary studies, surveys, usability testing, and participatory workshops
- Partner with cross functional teams including Product, Design, Engineering, Sales, and Communications to shape research strategies
- Translate research findings into clear insights and recommendations that influence product direction
- Support development teams by testing concepts, prototypes, and live solutions to guide iteration
- Integrate user research throughout the product lifecycle to continuously improve the user experience
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Computer Interaction, Psychology, Sociology, Design, or related field
- 3 plus years of experience conducting user research in a product development environment
- Experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods
- Proficiency in designing and executing studies such as interviews, usability testing, and surveys
- Strong ability to synthesize research findings into actionable insights
- Experience collaborating with cross functional teams in product, design, and engineering

- Advanced degree in a related field
- Experience conducting research for both hardware and software products
- Familiarity with automotive, mobility, or connected product ecosystems
- Experience influencing product strategy through research insights
- Strong storytelling and communication skills
