Job Summary
The Substitute Teacher at St. Gerard Majella Catholic School provides instructional continuity in the absence of the regular classroom teacher by maintaining a structured, supportive, and engaging learning environment. This role ensures that lesson plans are followed, student behavior is managed effectively, and academic progress continues while upholding the school’s values and expectations.
Job Responsibilities
- Follow lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher to ensure continuity of instruction
- Maintain a positive, orderly, and respectful classroom environment
- Supervise students in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, and other school settings
- Adapt instruction as needed to meet student needs during the school day
- Address behavioral issues in accordance with school policies
- Communicate important information and classroom updates to the regular teacher
- Ensure student safety and well-being at all times
- Support school policies, procedures, and Catholic values
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma required; college coursework or degree in education preferred
- Experience working with children in an educational setting preferred
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Ability to follow directions and adapt to different classroom environments
- Dependable, flexible, and professional demeanor
- Basic instructional and organizational skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with professionalism
