Position Summary

The Vice President of Personnel serves as a strategic partner to field operations and executive leadership, ensuring that people strategies directly support project performance, workforce stability, and operational excellence. This role is highly embedded with field leadership and project teams, focusing on problem solving, workforce planning, leadership support, and building a culture that enables crews and managers to deliver projects safely, efficiently, and profitably.

The VP of Personnel operates as a business partner to operations helping solve real-world workforce challenges, strengthening leadership capability in the field, and aligning people strategy with project delivery. The VP of Personnel oversees and guides the HR team providing executive oversight of compensation and benefits strategies to ensure programs remain competitive within the construction industry and oversees and guides the WFD team to effectively support the attraction, retention, and motivation of both craft and leadership personnel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a strategic partner to executive and operations leadership, aligning workforce strategies with business objectives and project execution.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships across field operations, project teams, and corporate functions, serving as a trusted advisor and team-oriented partner throughout the organization.
  • Partner directly with field leadership to address workforce challenges impacting safety, productivity, engagement, and retention.
  • Maintain a strong presence in the field to understand operational realities, build credibility with employees, and ensure workforce initiatives support project success.
  • Advise leaders on workforce planning, organizational effectiveness, employee relations, leadership development, and team performance.
  • Develop and implement talent, leadership, and succession strategies that support current operations and long-term growth.
  • Foster a values-driven culture that promotes employee engagement, accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence.
  • Lead workforce planning initiatives and recommend solutions to address labor availability, retention, leadership pipeline, and organizational challenges.
  • Provide executive oversight of compensation, benefits, incentive programs, and rewards strategies to ensure competitiveness and alignment with company goals.
  • Direct key HR functions, including talent acquisition, performance management, employee relations, compliance, HR systems, and workforce analytics.
  • Support organizational growth, change management, and continuous improvement initiatives across the company.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, or a related field preferred.
  • 10-15+ years of progressive leadership experience in construction, infrastructure, manufacturing, or other project-based industries.
  • Proven ability to build strong partnerships with operational leaders and influence business outcomes through effective workforce strategies.
  • Demonstrated collaborative leadership style with the ability to work across all levels of the organization and earn trust with both field and corporate teams.
  • Strong business acumen with an understanding of the relationship between workforce decisions and operational performance.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness and ability to spend significant time in field environments and engage directly with project teams and employees.
