Director Respiratory Services - Respiratory at Antelope Valley Medical Center
Brief Description
Job Objective
Reporting to the Vice President of Diagnostic and Support Services, and under the medical direction of the Medical Director of Respiratory Services, the Director of Respiratory Services is responsible for the management, direction, and delivery of patient care, in Respiratory Therapy, EKG, EEG and the Pulmonary Function/ABG Lab. Coordination with other departments within the hospital is critical. Responsibilities will include management of people, equipment, material, and budget.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Management and Leadership
- Leads by example and serves as a professional role model
- Informs employees of the present as well as future changes
- Supports, encourages and contributes to the professional growth of all department members
- Responsible for the continuous assessment and improvement of the quality of care and services provided
- Assures that the strategic direction and daily operations are in line with the organizational mission
- Effectively handles issues with physicians, nursing, and other hospital departments.
- Conducts new employee interviewing and hiring
- Evaluates staff performance including use of staff competence and quality improvement data
- Financial Management
- Ensures that department operates within budget
- Utilizes the budget as a planning and control tool
- Continually evaluates and recommends opportunities for the cost-effective delivery of care.
- Develops and recommends operating and capital budgets for areas of responsibility
- Develops strategic objectives and new programs
- Management of Information Systems
- Understands departmental information systems and other equipment as necessary
- Understands and conforms to the AVH Information Systems Strategic Plan
Non-Essential Duties
- Any assigned task in support of Hospital goals.
- General office support.

Education and Experience: Education
- High School Graduate
- Graduate of recognized School of Respiratory Therapy.
- Bachelor's degree required. Experience may be substituted but only with the understanding a Bachelor's degree will be achieved within five years of accepting the position.
Experience
- Experience in Respiratory Therapy such that hiring authority feels is acceptable.
- Five to ten years full-time experience performing supervisory responsibilities or highly responsible work related to the duties and responsibilities of this position required.
- Three to five years experience as Director in busy acute-care hospital is preferred.
Required Licensure and/or Certifications
- Director must be licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the state of California, or able to acquire such licensure within 6 months of accepting the position
- Director must be credentialed as RRT by National Board of Respiratory Care, or able to achieve such credential within three years of accepting the position

Key Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Administrative duties are performed in a normal office environment
