Project Engineer at GEI Consultants, Inc.

GEI is seeking a Water Resources Staff Engineer to join our practice in the Bakersfield, California office. This position will support planning, analysis, design, and implementation of water resources, agricultural engineering, groundwater recharge, water conveyance and supply, groundwater management, and flood management projects. The successful candidate will work under the direction of project managers and licensed professional engineers to prepare technical analyses, design documentation, construction support materials, and project deliverables for public and private sector clients.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
- Work under the direction of project managers and licensed professional engineers to support planning, design, and implementation of water resources projects, agricultural engineering projects, and other civil design and engineering projects.
- Perform construction observation and field work for agricultural, water resources, and other engineering projects. Prepare field notes, observation reports, photo documentation and other documents in support of construction observation.
- Perform construction administration tasks for agricultural, water resources, and other engineering projects. Prepare construction related documentation, participate in meetings, review contractor and construction documents, and other tasks.
- Advance design concepts, perform engineering calculations, use CAD and other technical tools, prepare basis of design reports and memorandums, prepare specifications and design drawings, prepare cost estimates, and support projects through implementation.
- Assist with preparation of engineering design drawings and figures for a variety of project types including, but not limited to, agricultural engineering, groundwater recharge basins, and water conveyance and supply systems.
- Coordinate and prepare technical analyses and reports for a variety of water resources projects including water supply, groundwater management and sustainability, and flood management.
- Work closely and collaboratively with project specialists, engineers, project managers, and project directors to execute projects effectively and efficiently.
- Development of spreadsheets and databases storing digitized data, documentation and geo-referenced data, conduct technical analysis and prepare associated written technical memoranda.
- Work toward attainment of a Professional Engineering registration in California.
- Maintain quality of work while meeting deadlines for multiple projects.
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. in Civil Engineering, Bioresources Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or related field.
- 0-3 years of professional experience in civil, agricultural, water resources, or consulting engineering.
- E.I.T. is desirable.
- Ability to work towards Professional Engineer license is desirable.
- Ability to conceptualize, design, and layout agricultural engineering and other types of projects.
- Ability to formulate and execute technical assignments with appropriate oversight and direction; desire to acquire and apply new skills and techniques to project assignments.
- Knowledge of drafting and design with CAD with experience creating and modifying alignments, profiles, sections, plan views, surfaces, grading groups, corridors, point data, blocks, label styles, data shortcuts, and details.
- Proficiency with technical analysis software, CAD, MS Office, MS Project, PowerPoint, spreadsheets, databases, and other computer applications.
- GIS experience a plus.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, be team-oriented and highly self-motivated, possess good problem-solving skills and be willing to respond to instruction from Senior Staff.
- Willingness and ability to travel to project sites and other GEI offices as needed.
- Valid driver’s license.
