Custodial Assistant Supervisor at USS Lexington Museum
Scope: To maintain a safe, healthy environment for museum staff, volunteers, and guests and preserve the history of the USS Lexington CV-16. To support the supervisory responsibilities as outlined below.
Responsibilities
- Assists the Department Supervisor with supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
- Participates in the recruiting process for the department, trains, motivates, schedules, reward and discipline employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems;
- Ensures fork lift and environmental certification courses are acquired and in compliance.
- Establishes and monitors department procedures to assure the security of product inventory and safety is enforced among Crew members and the museum guests.
- Ensure the department Crew is trained to be knowledgeable about janitorial supplies and the museum to provide a pleasant clean museum experience for the visitors.
- Coordinates with the Supervisor to maximize productivity of the Crew and support departments as needed.
- Maintains knowledge of available janitorial products and test new products for comparison with cost savings and quality.
- Maintains Purchase Order log and acquires approvals for all Lex Ship Services (LSS) supplies.
- Orders, receives, accounts for janitorial supplies usage using established museum procedures and performs physical inventory.
- Priorities are to include, maintaining the approach ways, admissions, tour routes, bathrooms, meeting rooms, berthing compartments, office areas, Hanger Bays and flight deck. Evaluates special projects, preventative cleaning maintenance to keep the museum in ship shape condition.
- Must adhere to a weekly schedule for normal work operations unless otherwise approved by Director of Operations and/or Executive Director.
- Attends weekly safety meeting for updated safety protocol with equipment, chemicals and projects.
- Provides support to other departments by assigning crew as needed relevant to Special Events set up requirements and clean up duties.
- Set up caution signs for visitors when needed.
- Serves as a member of the safety team and emergency response team and directs crew accordingly.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to stand; use continuous hand, arm and finger manipulation, additionally it requires long distance walking, working in confined spaces, and tolerating temperature changes. The employee is required to lift up to 25-50 pounds. The vision requirements include: clear concise, close/distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and vibration. The noise level in the environment is moderate. Exposure to chemical agents, painting supplies and fumes.
To qualify for this position the candidate must have a minimum of 1 year supervisor experience in leading a custodial crew in a similar venue or attraction. Must have a minimum of 2 years as a custodian or janitor. Must be able to lead by example and perform work along side the Crew. Must be skilled in administrative duties including reading, writing, computer knowledge, and training. Must be able to work weekends and evenings as needed.
