Overview

Provides professional legal support for utility-related contracts, claims, regulatory matters, and litigation proceedings by conducting research, preparing legal documents, managing case files, monitoring deadlines, and coordinating administrative activities.

Responsibilities

· Draft, review, proofread, and maintain legal correspondence, contracts, exhibits, regulatory filings, and other legal documents to ensure accuracy and compliance

· Conduct legal research and analyze applicable laws, regulations, case information, and support documentation using legal databases and research tools

· Manage attorney calendars, court deadlines, docket control orders, scheduling orders, meetings, and case reminders to ensure timely completion of legal obligations

· Prepare, organize, maintain, and index case files, claim documents, evidence, exhibits, trial notebooks, and supporting documentation for litigation and administrative proceedings

· Monitor invoices, review expenses, and assist with financial tracking and budget-related activities

· Review procurement documents, contracts, insurance certificates, bonds, and related records to ensure compliance with organizational requirements

· Organize, maintain, and update electronic and physical filing systems, records, and legal documentation for efficient retrieval and recordkeeping

· Provide professional customer service by responding to inquiries, greeting visitors, directing calls, and serving as a liaison between attorneys, clients, agencies, and departments

· Coordinate administrative operations including mail distribution, meeting scheduling, supply inventory management, and office support functions

· Retrieve, compile, analyze, and maintain information from databases, spreadsheets, directories, and other record systems to support legal and administrative activities

· Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned in support of legal and departmental operations

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

  • Non-Exempt – Full-Time – 40-hour work week

· Must be available to work additional hours as needed

· Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

· In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications

· Associate’s degree (AA/AS); or 2-year technical certificate

· Two (2) years of experience

· A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring.

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
