Codes & Permit Technician II at City of St. Petersburg
This is responsible, technical, office and public contact work of moderate difficulty, in the City’s Building Department, involving building permit requests and replying to general inquiries. Work involves reviewing, investigating, processing and responding to requests or inquiries regarding permits, licenses, fees, inspection activities, City, State and Federal codes and other related matters; review of applications for compliance with applicable municipal building and related codes; responding verbally or in writing to inquiries from the business community, other governmental agencies and the public on code and permit matters; performing general office, clerical work and computer functions; and considerable contact with the public on the telephone and in person, requiring the exercise of considerable discretion, tact and diplomacy.
Salary: $22.66 - $34.59 Hourly

To Qualify
Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must
- Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
- Have considerable knowledge or experience in construction or building permits, performing inspection activities, or a related field, encompassing public contact.
- Have good computer skills using Web based programs.
- Be able to type accurately at a moderate speed.
- Have excellent customer service skills.
- Be able to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
- Be able to perform varied technical and clerical operations both rapidly and accurately.
- Be able to exercise sound judgment in rendering code interpretations and other decisions in accordance with established departmental policies.
Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants
- Have supplemented their education with some post-secondary technical or college course credits.
- Have some knowledge of the application and interpretation of municipal codes, the Federal Emergency Management Agency regulations, the State Energy Code, construction industry terminology, and the layout/geography of the City.
- Have some knowledge or experience with electronic plan review software.
- Are able to perform basic mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy.
- Are able to prepare clear and concise reports using a variety of source materials.
- Are able to understand and follow moderately complex oral and written instructions.
