About the Position

This position is responsible for administration of one or more key Public Services functional areas and operational oversight of multiple Library locations. It provides strategic direction, budget oversight, program coordination and supervision of selected staff. It works closely with leadership of other departments as well as the Chief Public Services Officer to ensure all tactical and operational objectives of the department are met.

8:00am-5:00pm - Monday-Friday

What You’ll Do

  • Member of Public Services leadership team. Works closely with other leaders and larger Public Services team to integrate all ideas into clear vision for service enhancement and operational excellence.
  • Provides leadership, development and supervision of selected managers throughout the department. Sets individual performance measurements for location managers and holds them accountable. Responsibilities include coaching, managing, selecting, orienting and evaluating.
  • Assists with problem solving and provides operational support to location managers through interpretation of policy and procedure and resolution of customer service issues
  • Serves as administrative leader and coordinates high level planning for functional program areas.
  • Establishes and maintains community partnerships to enhance programs and services and overall community relations.
  • Leads and participates in system-wide task forces and committees, directs work groups, monitors assignments and their completion and works with all levels of staff, assuring alignment with strategic plan.
  • Attends state and national conferences to represent organization and to share and implement new ideas.
  • Assists with recruiting and interviewing of Public Services staff as appropriate. Takes lead in identifying, developing and implementing training programs and opportunities. Coaches and develops staff.
  • Leads major strategic initiatives through project management.
  • Coordinates and implements new services and ensures that staff is well trained on how to effectively meet the needs of customers and achieve desired results.
  • Assists in the development of Public Services Department metrics, performance measurement and goal setting.
  • Coordinates, initiates, and approves paperwork and documentation to assure proper fiscal and regulatory control.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned including serving on task forces, committees, etc

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s of Library Science or Master’s of Library and Information Science Degree required.
  • 5-7 years’ progressively more responsible experience working in libraries or similar business/organization.
  • Leadership and management experience required.
  • Ability to lead and manage projects and initiatives and to bring ideas and service enhancements to market.
  • Acts with the customer in mind. Meets the expectations and requirements of external and internal customers.
  • Skills, knowledge and experience to oversee, guide and support operations and staff across multiple library locations.
  • Ability to effectively present in a variety of formal settings - one on one, group, peers, direct reports, etc. Command attention and manage group process.
  • Can inspire and motivate entire units of the organization, ability to communicate a compelling and inspired vision as well as a sense of purpose.
  • Ability to operate library technology including personal computer, email, software programs (i.e. Windows/Microsoft Office) and other job-related equipment and systems

The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, and residences or commercial vehicles (e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, and/or working in moderate outdoor weather conditions).

Work requires minimal demand for physical effort.
