About the Role
Are you excited by the idea of helping advance cancer research that could improve the lives of patients? As a Laboratory Technician with the Department of Urology, you will play an important role in supporting innovative kidney cancer research in the laboratories of Dr. Eric Kauffman and Dr. Blake Wilde.
This position offers a unique opportunity to work across both labs, contributing to research focused on kidney cancer biology, tumor metabolism, and identifying new therapeutic approaches. You'll be involved in a true bench-to-bedside research environment, helping connect discoveries made in the laboratory to potential future treatments for patients.
We're looking for someone who is naturally curious, highly organized, and enjoys working as part of a collaborative team. Whether you're conducting experiments, supporting animal studies, helping coordinate research projects, or assisting with patient-focused research activities, your work will have a meaningful impact on the fight against cancer.
The starting annual salary for this position is $42,434 and this can include a full comprehensive benefits package.
What You'll Do
In this role, you'll support a variety of research and laboratory operations activities, including:
Perform laboratory techniques such as cell culture, molecular biology, and biochemical assays
Assist with mouse models used to study kidney cancer
Help coordinate projects that span multiple research teams and investigators
Maintain accurate experimental records and research documentation
Support patient enrollment for research studies and assist with tissue collection for laboratory analysis
Contribute to laboratory organization, inventory management, and supply ordering
Assist with regulatory and compliance documentation
Help maintain a safe, efficient, and collaborative research environment
Work closely with scientists, clinicians, trainees, and research staff to move projects forward

Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain detailed records
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Experience contributing data for scientific abstracts, publications, or grant applications is a plus
Peer-reviewed publications are welcomed but not required

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
1. Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field; or
2. Associate’s degree in a science-related field and the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time laboratory experience; or
3. High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma and the equivalent of four (4) years of full-time laboratory experience.
Degrees must be conferred by an accredited school, college, or university, or by an institution recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and/or Health Research Incorporated as adhering to acceptable educational standards.
- Experience working in a collaborative research environment and coordinating projects across multiple investigators or teams.
- Demonstrated experience in two or more of the following techniques: cell culture, molecular cloning, western blotting, CRISPR/Cas9 approaches, metabolomics or LC-MS sample preparation, recombinant protein production and purification, enzymatic assays, RT-qPCR, mouse breeding, mouse handling and animal procedures, microscopy, immunofluorescence/immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, or bioinformatics.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain accurate experimental and regulatory records.
- Experience contributing data for scientific abstracts, publications, or grant applications.
- Published peer-reviewed research is desirable but not required.
