The Lead Student Success Specialist serves as a collaborative, student-centered professional within the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), dedicated to promoting academic success, student wellbeing, retention, and persistence through graduation across the medical education continuum. This position works collaboratively with the Program Manager/Learning Specialist to provide individualized academic support, learning resources, and student success interventions that help students develop effective strategies for success within the Foster School of Medicine curriculum. The Lead Student Success Specialist helps to support specialized retention initiatives and student success programs through the use of early alert systems, institutional and school-level data, and coordinated intervention strategies designed to promote student achievement and academic progression. This role works directly with cohorts of students to provide holistic student success support through academic development planning, resource referrals, individualized guidance, and academic and career goal setting.

This position collaborates closely with the Program Manager/Learning Specialist (and peer tutors), faculty, course directors, college mentors, and student affairs leadership to foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment while maintaining compliance with LCME standards, including LCME Element 11.1, which requires academic advising and counseling to be provided by individuals who do not participate in student assessment or promotion decisions.
