Now Hiring: Learning and Development Specialist
The Learning and Development Specialist designs, implements, delivers, and evaluates training programs to enhance employee skills, support leadership growth, and encourage ongoing professional development. This position drives training initiatives throughout the organization, aligning learning solutions with business goals while fostering a culture of continuous learning. Responsibilities include onboarding new employees, providing technical instruction, and supporting ongoing professional development.
The Learning and Development Specialist collaborates with department managers, HR Business Partners and Branch Administration and Member Contact Center trainers to identify learning needs, develop engaging content, and lead training sessions, workshops and online courses. They also assess training effectiveness, offer constructive feedback, and ensure all programs support organizational objectives and meet relevant standards. This individual is skilled at relationship-building, demonstrates thought leadership in training and engagement, brings energy and confidence to classroom settings, has experience with needs assessments, and possesses a passion for learning and career advancement.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Develops a thorough understanding of departmental business strategies and learning needs by collaborating with managers, offering tailored solutions and best practices for knowledge transfer.
- Works with managers and stakeholders to create customized, role-based learning pathways that address skill gaps and enhance team performance.
- Builds credit union knowledge, gathers information, and establishes key networks to analyze and respond to current and future learning requirements.
- Produces a variety of learning content, including live sessions, interactive workshops, on demand trainings, microlearning modules, and job aids, ensuring employees have access to diverse training resources beyond LMS platforms.
- Designs and develops new trainings with clear objectives, content, project timelines, and rollout plans, including comprehensive communication strategies.
- Applies adult learning principles and instructional design methods to create eLearning, job aids, facilitator guides, blended learning, and structured materials.
- Utilizes AI-powered tools to develop and enhance scalable training programs, improving efficiency, personalization, and learner engagement.
- Employs BVS for assigning, tracking, and reporting on training initiatives, ensuring documentation and completion rates are accurate.
- Supports employees in accessing and using BVS and other available tools for their ongoing training needs.
- Defines success metrics and evaluates program effectiveness, measuring engagement, behavior change, and business impact.
- Refines training programs based on data and insights, demonstrating the ROI of learning initiatives.
- Collaborates closely with subject matter experts to update and test training materials.
- Maintains version control and quality standards to ensure learning materials remain accurate and relevant.
- Identifies external training resources and manages vendor relationships.
- Coordinates and supports state training grant processes, such as the Workforce Training Fund Program.
- Works with AVP, Employee Experience, and SVP, Chief Human Resources Officer to establish the annual training calendar.
- Coordinates with Compliance and AVP, Employee Experience for annual compliance training rollout.
- Updates courses regularly to provide a consistent learning experience across all locations.
- Partners with IT to expand learning delivery by evaluating and utilizing video conferencing tools, providing feedback, updating equipment instructions, and fostering tool adoption.
- Organizes and facilitates new hire orientation, ensuring a positive and consistent onboarding experience. Keeps onboarding materials, schedules, and resources current and accurate. Works with cross-functional teams to deliver a seamless global onboarding process. Collects feedback from new hires for continuous improvement.
- Collaborates with internal stakeholders to develop role-specific competency models, career pathing frameworks, and development plans.
- Partner with key stakeholders and HRBPs to identify high-potential leaders and design personalized development plans.
- Designs, develops, and implements leadership development programs and training for targeted groups, including collaboration with external partners.
- Facilitates leadership courses aligned with the credit union’s strategic goals.
- Oversees the Executive and Professional Coaching Program with outside vendors.
- Establishes a Mentor program to foster development, retention, and knowledge transfer, working with HRBPs to match mentees and mentors. Maintains records, updates program materials, conducts annual surveys, and leads information sessions for mentors and mentees.
- Helps to execute programs supporting culture, connection, and employee experience.
- Sets governance and standards for recorded trainings.
- Stays updated on trends and new tools in learning and development, sharing insights to modernize talent and learning functions.
- Performs duties in accordance with federal and state laws, regulations, and credit union policies.
- Handles additional projects as assigned by AVP, Employee Experience and SVP, Chief Human Resources Officer.
Supervisory Experience: This position has no supervisory responsibilities; however, this role will provide guidance and direction as needed to team members and managers on items related to L&D initiatives and responsibilities.
Education And/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Adult Education or Business Administration; and
- 5+ years of experience in training, instructional design, or learning and development, preferably in a financial institution or credit union; or
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
