CRED is a cohort-based vocational training program for at-risk community members between the ages of 18-40 years old. The program provides classroom instruction, case management services, internship opportunities, and job placement services designed to help clients earn a Commercial Driver’s License and obtain employment in the transportation industry. The Instructor will be responsible for developing curriculum and facilitating work readiness, financial literacy, leadership, basic skills, and entrepreneurial training for clients enrolled in the CRED Program. The Instructor will help clients develop vocational skills, problem-solving skills, and life skills in a safe, caring, and enriching environment. The individual selected for this position will be under the direct supervision of the CRED Program Director, will conduct themselves in a professional manner, and will comply with all standards set forth by United Activities Unlimited and the NYC Department of Youth & Community Development.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):

  • Develop an engaging vocational training curriculum, that includes presentations, activities, and opportunities for hands-on learning.
  • Facilitate daily workshops to help clients develop their work readiness skills and self-sufficiency skills, while also preparing them for the Commercial Driver’s License Permit Exam.
  • Provide academic support and/or tutoring services to 18-to-40-year-old clients who need additional assistance with basic math, English, and communication skills.
  • Integrate guest speakers, mentors, and content experts into the content delivery.
  • Employ educational strategies that advance participants' conceptual and practical knowledge, and connect learning to the pursuit and achievement of career goals.
  • Ensure all education-related deliverables are completed and submitted to the Program Director within the program training period.
  • Engage CRED Case Managers and Job Developer in classroom instruction to provide a holistic educational experience.
  • Maintain regular communication with Case Managers and Job Developer to share client’s progress and support efforts towards achieving their short-and-long-term goals.
  • Contribute to client case notes, per DYCD standards.
  • Ensure completion of participant surveys to capture qualitative and quantitative feedback from participants at the end of each cohort.
  • Support engagement and enrichment events hosted by the CRED team.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with staff, clients, and community partners.
  • Advise and coach clients to ensure success through advocacy, support, and guidance.
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities, as directed.
  • Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Education or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in education and/or the commercial driving industry
  • 2+ years of experience in youth services or working with vulnerable populations, in occupational and life skills training, college preparation and enrollment.
  • NYS certification or license in Education, preferred
  • Experience developing academic and life skills curriculum, including reading, writing, mathematics, professionalism, digital literacy, and financial literacy
  • Ability to engage, motivate, and guide individuals in the pursuit of individual goals
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt content delivery to the needs of clients
  • Strong organizational verbal, time management skills written, problem solving and mathematical skills
  • Experience operational knowledge and proficiency of Microsoft Excel/Word/PowerPoint and GSulte platforms, remote work/remote learning technology, Including Zoom, Google Meets, Google Classroom, and the Internet
