Summary

This position requires a financial background (combination of education and experience) and a strong skillset in business intelligence tools and platforms. The position is part of the Finance Department’s Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team at Citizens Business Bank. This individual will support the FP&A Manager by maintaining and enhancing FP&A reporting systems (KCI CONTROL and Power BI), as well as conducting various internal financial reporting and analysis responsibilities. The ideal candidate brings attention to detail, affinity for automation and process improvement, and an entrepreneurial mindset to build new processes and report.

The FP&A team is responsible for bank-wide financial performance analytics and strategic analysis that supports the executive team and key decision-makers. This includes monthly financial performance reports and analytics, quarterly and annual forecasts, and various strategic and ad hoc analyses. As a critical member of this small and dynamic team, you will be working directly with the FP&A Manager to help build the tools that support key decision-makers throughout the organization.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Complies with, and stays abreast of, all policies and procedures, federal and state laws applicable to the job.
  • Responsible for month-end close procedures to support the FP&A team, including (i) loading month-end data from general ledger to FP&A software application, (ii) loading data from other external sources to support revenue shadow calculations, (iii) administering internal expense (overhead) allocation rules in the FP&A software application, (iv) performing all related reconciliation and validation steps.
  • Designs and maintains financial algorithms to administer revenue shadow, expense allocation, balance sheet consolidation, etc. under the supervision of the FP&A Manager
  • Maintains FP&A database hierarchies and definitions to facilitate FP&A reporting needs and in alignment with accounting guidance and pronouncements.
  • Identifies areas for improvement in business processes and develops strategies to enhance efficiency.
  • Performs variance analyses and ad-hoc financial analyses to provide actionable insights to specific business questions.
  • Collaborates with the FP&A Manager to produce financial forecasts.
  • At the direction of the FP&A Manager, designs, builds and maintains financial reports on the FP&A software platform and Power BI, such as summary financials (income statement and balance sheet), trending analysis, KPIs and gearing ratios, contribution analysis, etc.
  • Creates and maintains detailed documentation of business requirements, processes, and recommendations.
  • Contributes to data management and governance initiatives, such as proactively monitoring data quality using tools like Ataccama.
  • Collaborates with Data Warehouse on projects that enhance the business intelligence capabilities of the FP&A team, such as automating data feeds.
  • Collaborates with 3rd party software vendor and internal CBB IT team to support resolution of bug fixes, optimize database performance issues and implement system enhancements.
  • Provide, present, and promote the Citizens Experience to all external and internal customers.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or another related field of study is required
  • 2 or more years of experience in a data science, data management, or analytics-related role or advanced degree

Language Skills

This position requires strong communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals, as well as the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions effectively. Requires the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical literature, and government regulations.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Strong analytical skills with the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer & Software Skills

  • Advanced computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Power BI
  • Ability to manipulate and analyze large datasets in Excel, SQL, and/or other database environments
  • Proficiency in some basic coding languages such as VBA or SQL preferred
  • Some experience with database management and/or system administration is preferred, but not required.

OTHER SKILLS And ABILITIES

  • Understanding of financial concepts, including components of balance sheet and income statement, and key financial measurements, specific to commercial banking.
  • Ability to use/customize moderate to complex financial analysis, as well as familiarity with financial concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Ability to multitask, work effectively in a high production environment, and respond quickly and productively under pressure, tight timelines, and changing priorities.
