Position Summary
The Maintenance Oiler is responsible for performing preventive lubrication and routine maintenance activities to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all sawmill equipment. This position plays a critical role in minimizing equipment downtime by maintaining proper lubrication schedules, monitoring machinery condition, and identifying potential mechanical issues before they result in equipment failure.
The Maintenance Oiler works closely with the Maintenance and Production teams while maintaining a strong commitment to workplace safety, preventive maintenance, and continuous improvement.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Grease and lubricate all production and support equipment according to established preventive maintenance schedules.
- Maintain proper oil levels and lubrication on all assigned machinery.
- Inspect and maintain hydraulic reservoirs, ensuring units remain clean and properly filled.
- Monitor equipment for signs of excessive wear, leaks, overheating, vibration, or other abnormal operating conditions.
- Report equipment deficiencies, maintenance concerns, and potential failures to Maintenance leadership immediately.
- Assist Millwrights with preventive maintenance projects and equipment repairs as assigned.
- Perform routine housekeeping in maintenance work areas, lubrication stations, and equipment access areas.
- Maintain accurate lubrication and maintenance records when required.
- Ensure all lubrication equipment, tools, and supplies are maintained in safe working condition.
- Follow all Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures before servicing or working around equipment.
- Comply with all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and environmental procedures.
- Report unsafe conditions, near misses, incidents, and hazards immediately.
- Work cooperatively with production personnel to minimize downtime while maintaining safe work practices.
- Participate in safety meetings, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Working knowledge of industrial lubrication systems and preventive maintenance practices.
- Good mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to recognize abnormal equipment conditions before failures occur.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Dependable attendance and work ethic.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, emergency call-ins, and alternate shifts as business needs require.

Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of industrial lubrication products and proper application techniques.
- Understanding of hydraulic systems and lubrication equipment.
- Ability to read maintenance manuals, equipment diagrams, safety procedures, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Basic math skills required for measurements and maintenance calculations.
- Ability to document maintenance activities accurately.
- Basic computer skills preferred for maintenance tracking systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Welding certification or experience.
- Mechanical and/or electrical maintenance experience.
- Experience working in a sawmill or other heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
- Forklift certification or ability to become certified.
