The Role
We are seeking a hands-on People Operations Generalist to manage our day-to-day people operations and processes. In this role, you will bring structure, accountability, and consistency to HR and the broader organization, with a strong focus on automating and streamlining workflows wherever possible.
This is a highly operational role in which you will be deeply involved in day-to-day execution while serving as a trusted partner to leadership. You will work closely with department leaders to reinforce accountability among managers and individual contributors, clarify performance expectations, and drive operational excellence and consistency across the organization.
What You’ll Do
1. HR Partner
- Coach managers on how to lead teams, give feedback, and manage performance
- Ensure managers are following company expectations and holding their teams accountable
- Support difficult conversations including performance issues and disciplinary actions
- Drive consistency in how managers lead across teams
2. SOP Development and Execution
- Build and document clear SOPs across people processes
- Standardize and own onboarding, offboarding, and performance management workflows, ensuring all teams follow consistent processes
- Identify gaps and continuously improve processes
3. ADP and Benefit Management
- Own ADP as the system of record for employee data
- Manage employee changes, compensation updates, and reporting
- Ensure data accuracy and audit readiness
- Build reporting on headcount, retention, and performance trends
- Partner with the company's benefits broker to administer employee benefits year-round and lead the annual open enrollment process.
4. Performance and Accountability Framework
- Support and enforce performance review cycles
- Help define clear role expectations and performance standards
- Track performance trends and escalate risks early
- Partner with leadership to address underperformance
5. Employee Relations and Culture
- Act as a trusted partner to managers and employees
- Address employee concerns with fairness and consistency
- Reinforce a culture of ownership, accountability, and clear expectations
- Ensure behavior and performance standards are aligned
6. Compliance and Policy Management
- Ensure compliance with California and federal employment laws
- Build and maintain employee handbook and policies
- Ensure policies are clearly communicated and consistently applied
- Partner with Legal on sensitive matters when needed
7. Cross Functional Partnership
- Partner with Operations, Finance, and leadership to align people practices with business needs
- Work closely with recruiting to ensure smooth onboarding and role clarity
- Support organizational changes and ensure proper execution
Requirements
- 5+ years of HR experience, including at least 2 years in a manager-level or business partner role and building HR functions from scratch in start-up environments where you were the primary or sole HR resource.
- HR certification such as PHR or SHRM CP
- Proven experience in a high-growth startup or technology environment strongly preferred.
- Must be comfortable with navigating ambiguity and able to design scalable processes from scratch.
- Self-starter mentality with proven ability to work independently and drive initiatives to completion without extensive oversight.
- Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Experience with HR tools such as ATS, HRIS systems, Performance Management, Salary Data sources, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and build trust with employees and leaders at all levels.
- Hands-on, collaborative, and excited to roll up your sleeves.
- Nice to Have:
- Experience in HR at a food and beverage startup, supporting a sales team.
- Experience with ADP Workforce Now
