Counselor, Alpha - $100,000/year USD at Crossover

Date: 15 hours ago
City: Brownsville, TX
Salary: $50 per hour
Contract type: Full time
  • On-site position at Alpha School's Brownsville, TX campus
  • $100,000 annual W2 salary with weekly pay. Health benefits start on day one.
  • Relocation assistance available for candidates committing to one school year on campus

You've built a career around coaching young people — not instructing them. The distinction matters: coaching means connecting with students, pushing their limits, and refusing to accept anything less than their full potential. Instruction is about delivering material. You've never functioned as a content distribution channel.

Alpha operates one of the most unconventional schools you'll encounter. Students don't occupy desks in rows while someone lectures them. They progress through AI-driven learning platforms at individualized speeds. AI manages the academic instruction. Your role centers on facilitating life skills workshops that capture the attention of K-8 students, conducting motivational sessions that drive them toward weekly learning targets, and maintaining standards when students attempt to disengage. The academic component runs itself. You manage the human dimension.

This position offers meaningful upward potential, and that potential translates to greater student impact. Educators who consistently deliver results (100% cohort achievement of weekly app targets, satisfaction ratings above 90%) advance into Lead Guide positions where they train other educators to improve their effectiveness. Students remain the focus.

The campus sits in Brownsville, adjacent to SpaceX's Starbase facility. If your motivation for changing jobs centers on mission — transforming how children perceive their own capabilities — rather than adding a credential to your CV, submit your application.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops for K-8 students on topics including public speaking, concentration, and constructive feedback exchange
  • Administering Test2Pass mastery assessments following each workshop to verify authentic skill acquisition rather than passive attendance
  • Conducting daily motivational sessions informed by student profiles, individual interests, and Coachbot analytics to achieve 100% cohort completion of weekly app progression goals
  • Leveraging narrative techniques, incentive structures (campus currency, performance leaderboards), and individual rapport to overcome student disengagement
  • Monitoring cohort satisfaction metrics with a target of 90%+ on student feedback surveys

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Delivering lectures from the front of a classroom. Students progress academically via self-directed AI-powered applications, not through direct instruction from you.
  • Providing passive supervision. The environment involves students working on computers; the job requires active engagement.
  • Reducing expectations when students resist. Test2Pass performance standards remain constant regardless of a student's difficult circumstances that week.
  • Creating curriculum materials independently. Workshop playbooks and lesson frameworks are supplied; your responsibility is executing them with the presence and narrative skill that ensures genuine student comprehension.
  • Handling parent communication, admissions processes, or campus operational management. Those functions belong to different positions.
