Shop Laborer at Universal Plant Services

We are currently seeking a motivated and dependable Shop Laborer to join our manufacturing and repair operations team. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy hands-on work, thrive in a fast-paced shop environment, and take pride in supporting production and maintenance activities. The Shop Laborer plays an important role in ensuring operational efficiency by assisting with machine support, material handling, part finishing, equipment maintenance, inventory tasks, and general housekeeping. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, physical stamina, and a commitment to workplace safety.

Essential Job Requirements

• Machine Support: Assist with the setup, operation, and teardown of milling, turning, drilling, and tapping machines.
• Part Finishing: Deburr, clean, file, and inspect finished parts using hand tools and measuring equipment like calipers.
• Material Handling: Load and unload raw materials and finished parts, including handling heavy items safely.
• Maintenance & Cleanliness: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including sweeping, taking out trash, and restocking consumables.
• Equipment Care: Perform basic preventative maintenance on machines and assist in lawn maintenance using riding mowers and weed eater.
• Inventory & Logistics: Assist with inventory counts, part tagging, and moving materials between workstations.

• Other related duties as assigned.

Required Education

• High school diploma required; or equivalent
• Some College and/or Training preferred.

Required Experience

• 2+ years of laborer experience

Required Skills

• Mechanical Aptitude: Basic understanding of machinery and comfort using hand tools.
• Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy materials.
• Safety Focus: Strict adherence to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements and safety protocols.

Physical Requirements

• Some overtime may be required during peak times.
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
• Must be able to lift more than 15 pounds.
• Use repetitive hand motions.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Working Condition

This position operates in a shop environment.

Pay Range: $16 an hour
