Horizons Greater Washington (HGW) provides year-round academic enrichment and summer learning opportunities for more than 400 students in grades 1–9. Position Summary

The Saturday Academy Program Support Staff duties include supervising transportation to and from the program, as well as recess time and social spaces, and supporting teachers, including Art, STEAM & Physical Education specialists, in classroom instruction. Support Staff will work with students in Grades 1 through 8.

2027: Jan 23, Feb 20, Mar 6, April 10

Schedule

Saturdays from 8:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. (or until student dismissal).

Core Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Site Director, the Program Support Staff will:

  • Support Lead Teachers and specialty teachers (including STEAM, Art, and Physical Education) during classroom instruction and activities.
  • Supervise students during arrival, dismissal, transportation, meals, recess, and transitions throughout the day.
  • Ride buses to and from the program and supervise students during transportation and field trips, as assigned.
  • Assist with classroom setup and organization to promote an engaging learning environment.
  • Monitor student safety and ensure all program policies, health procedures, and behavioral expectations are consistently followed.
  • Assist with daily administrative tasks, including attendance, meals, and other program documentation, as needed.
  • Build positive, respectful relationships with students while encouraging active participation and positive behavior.
  • Collaborate with teachers and site leadership to address student needs and support successful program implementation.
  • Participate in program observations, surveys, and other evaluation activities to support continuous improvement.
  • Attend required staff meetings and trainings.
  • Maintain reliable attendance and actively contribute to a positive team culture.

Qualifications

Required

  • At least 16 years of age.
  • Passion for working with children and supporting educational equity.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.
  • Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to receive feedback and adapt to changing program needs.
  • Spanish language proficiency is a plus.

Compensation

Under 18 pay range: $15.45 to $19.00 per hour.

Over 18 pay range: $17.95 to $21.75 per hour.?

Work Permits

Employees under the age of 18 must have a work permit from DC.

Environmental and Physical Conditions
