Backend Engineer (Ruby on Rails)

About the Role

We're looking for a talented Backend Engineer with strong Ruby on Rails experience to join our engineering team. In this role, you'll design, build, and maintain scalable backend services that power our applications. You'll collaborate closely with frontend engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to deliver reliable, high-performing software solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend applications using Ruby on Rails.
  • Build scalable, secure, and high-performance APIs and services.
  • Develop and maintain ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to support data integration and reporting.
  • Apply object-oriented programming principles to create maintainable, reusable, and testable code.
  • Optimize database queries and application performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical solutions and deliver new features.
  • Write automated tests and participate in code reviews to ensure high-quality software.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and implement long-term solutions.
  • Contribute to system architecture and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

Qualifications

Required

  • MUST be a US Citizen located within the United States
  • Strong professional experience developing applications with Ruby on Rails.
  • Solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles and design patterns.
  • Experience designing and maintaining ETL/data transformation processes.
  • Experience working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs and backend service architecture.
  • Experience with Git and modern software development practices.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred

  • Experience working in Agile development environments.
  • Familiarity with background job processing (Sidekiq, Resque, etc.).
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Knowledge of Docker and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience integrating third-party APIs and services.
