The Assistant General Manager supports the General Manager in overseeing daily operations across BAC Transportation. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the General Manager in directing day-to-day operations across all departments.

  • Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, and accountability to managers, supervisors, and team members.
  • Champion BAC’s core values, company policies, and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Partner with department leaders to ensure operational goals, company initiatives, and KPIs are achieved.
  • Monitor departmental performance, identify trends, resolve issues, and support improved results.
  • Assist departments in removing barriers and developing practical, scalable solutions.
  • Review staffing levels, scheduling practices, labor utilization, and workforce efficiency.
  • Promote communication and collaboration between departments.
  • Ensure supervisor and shift duties are completed according to departmental checklists and procedures.
  • Maintain a visible leadership presence and support front-line operations as needed.
  • Assist with investigations involving customer concerns, safety incidents, vehicle incidents, personnel issues, operational inconsistencies, and service failures.
  • Ensure corrective actions are documented, implemented, and followed through to completion.
  • Promote safe work habits and proactively address safety hazards, operational concerns, and team member incidents.
  • Ensure team members understand BAC’s services, vehicle types, customer expectations, and company offerings.
  • Perform operational audits, service checks, field checks, phone checks, vehicle checks, and quality assurance reviews.
  • Fulfill additional duties assigned by the General Manager.

Financial and Business Systems

  • Prepare, analyze, and distribute operational and financial reports for leadership.

  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, expense monitoring, revenue analysis, cost tracking, and profitability reporting.
  • Review financial trends and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and strengthen profitability.
  • Support month-end and year-end financial close processes by ensuring operational data is complete, accurate, reconciled, and documented.
  • Reconcile operational data across multiple software platforms.
  • Support accounting processes, including payroll validation, invoicing, reconciliations, financial reporting, and audit preparation.
  • Partner with accounting and leadership to identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining service quality.
  • Develop dashboards, scorecards, KPI reports, and business intelligence tools for department leaders and executive leadership.
  • Use AI-powered reporting, analysis, and automation tools to improve decision-making and reduce manual work.
  • Identify opportunities to automate reporting, eliminate redundant processes, improve data accuracy, and strengthen internal controls.
  • Ensure financial and operational reports are accurate, professional, timely, and confidential.

Technology and Systems

  • Serve as a primary technical resource for Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, accounting software, payroll systems, reporting platforms, scheduling systems, GPS technology, CRM software, databases, and other business applications.

  • Identify opportunities to modernize systems, automate workflows, and improve organizational efficiency.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and help implement software platforms, AI tools, and business applications that create measurable improvements.
  • Maintain the integrity, organization, and accuracy of operational and financial data.
  • Assist with technology implementations, software upgrades, integrations, workflow improvements, and business system changes.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, forms, databases, reports, tracking tools, and operational analytics.
  • Use AI, low-code, no-code, scripting, and automation platforms to improve internal processes.
  • Assist with website administration, online forms, APIs, software integrations, reporting tools, and internal business applications as needed.
  • Collaborate with software vendors, developers, consultants, and technical partners.
  • Train managers and team members on business software, technology platforms, digital workflows, reporting tools, and best practices.
  • Maintain standardized documentation for software systems, workflows, reporting procedures, and technology best practices.
  • Support data security, system integrity, access controls, backup procedures, and responsible technology use.
  • Stay current on emerging technology, AI platforms, automation tools, and business software.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

  • Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide quality assurance standards.

  • Conduct regular audits of departments, vehicles, facilities, customer interactions, reports, documentation, and procedures.
  • Monitor compliance with company policies, safety standards, licensing requirements, regulatory requirements, and service expectations.
  • Analyze customer feedback, service failures, incidents, operational performance, and quality metrics to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across all divisions of BAC Transportation.
  • Ensure consistency in customer experience and operational execution.
  • Help develop standardized procedures that improve quality, accountability, consistency, and service reliability.
  • Review incident documentation, operational reports, and service concerns to ensure root causes are identified and addressed.
  • Ensure proper follow-up and resolution of customer concerns, incident reports, and operational deficiencies.
  • Maintain quality control through phone, field, service, documentation, software, and vehicle spot checks.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Prepare executive reports, presentations, financial analyses, dashboards, project updates, and strategic recommendations.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding financial, personnel, legal, security, customer, and operational information.
  • Coordinate cross-department projects and company-wide initiatives assigned by the General Manager.
  • Assist with vendor management, purchasing approvals, software implementation, contract support, and operational planning.
  • Support the General Manager in documenting goals, tracking initiatives, monitoring deadlines, and ensuring follow-through.
  • Assist with internal communications, leadership updates, department reporting, and policy rollouts.
  • Maintain professional, organized, safe, and efficient workspaces, systems, files, and records.
  • Support facility, equipment, supply, and operational readiness needs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Skill Requirements

Job Location and Shift Hours

The Assistant General Manager works both on-site and remotely, with primary duties based at BAC Transportation Headquarters in Anchorage, Alaska. This position regularly operates in office, shop, dispatch, maintenance, field, and customer-facing environments and may require occasional travel throughout Alaska.

The role requires prolonged periods of sitting and standing, frequent computer and technology use, operation of office equipment, and the ability to safely operate company vehicles in varying road and weather conditions. The position may involve lifting up to 70 pounds.

All BAC Transportation vehicles and facilities are tobacco- and smoke-free. BAC Transportation LLC operates 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. The Assistant General Manager is expected to work a minimum of 45–50 hours per week and participate in the leadership on-call rotation as assigned.

The Assistant General Manager must be flexible and available to support weekends, evenings, holidays, special events, irregular operations, and emergency response needs as required by the business.

The Assistant General Manager serves as a key operational partner to the General Manager and supports the daily leadership of BAC Transportation LLC. This role helps ensure operational excellence, financial accountability, systems integrity, quality assurance, and consistent execution of company standards.

The Assistant General Manager works across departments to translate strategic goals into measurable results. This position combines operational leadership with strong technical proficiency, supporting financial reporting, business analytics, software administration, process improvement, data accuracy, and organizational efficiency.

A significant focus of this role is improving how BAC uses information, technology, reporting systems, and automation to support better decision-making. The Assistant General Manager will work with accounting systems, payroll platforms, scheduling software, GPS systems, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, project management tools, AI tools, databases, and other business applications to improve workflows, strengthen controls, and maintain reliable reporting.

Working closely with the General Manager and department leaders, the Assistant General Manager will monitor key performance indicators, support budgeting and forecasting, assist with quality assurance initiatives, improve operational processes, ensure compliance with company standards and regulations, and help drive continuous improvement throughout the organization.

Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications for Assistant General Manager, including but not limited to:

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent required. Additional education or background in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, Operations Management, or a related field is preferred.

  • Minimum seven years of progressively responsible leadership experience in a similar management role, preferably in transportation, logistics, hospitality, aviation support, fleet management, healthcare transportation, or another service-based industry.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multiple departments and managing operational performance, financial accountability, company initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Experience preparing financial reports, budgets, forecasts, operational analytics, dashboards, and executive-level performance reporting.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, cost controls, and business analytics.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, reporting tools, and cloud-based business software.
  • Experience using accounting software, payroll systems, scheduling software, CRM platforms, GPS systems, or similar enterprise applications.
  • Experience using AI tools to improve productivity, automate workflows, analyze data, generate reports, enhance documentation, summarize information, and increase operational efficiency.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted software development and coding tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Gemini, Replit, or similar platforms.
