Chief of Staff at Rockstar

Date: 7 hours ago
City: New York, NY
Contract type: Full time

Rockstar is recruiting for a startup studio that builds one company at a time with a focus on quality over speed. Their first company helps hundreds of nurses become entrepreneurs by launching, running, and growing their own medspas, and recently raised its Series C. Their second is now the largest funeral home in California and the fastest growing in the country. Their third company is still to-be-announced, but is already moving millions/mo in freight.

They're hiring a Chief of Staff who will work for Dan inside that third company and potentially a future company inside the studio. Your mandate is simple: take on the highest-priority opportunities across the business and do whatever is necessary to help them win. Success means the studio's companies work better and faster.

Expect roughly this breakdown to start:

  • Go-to-market. Work with Dan to develop and sharpen the GTM (who they sell to, how they reach them, what they say, and how they know it's working). You'll run experiments, build pipeline, talk to customers, and turn what you learn into a repeatable motion.
  • The model. Build and maintain the model for the business (the financial and operating picture they use to make decisions). You'll own the numbers: unit economics, forecasting, and the analysis behind their biggest bets.
  • Whatever it takes. The highest-priority opportunity changes as the company does. Some weeks that's a market they should enter, a deal they should close, a vendor they should replace, or an operational fire that needs putting out. You'll also work closely with Dan on priorities and follow-through, keeping you focused on the highest-impact work. Over time, this extends beyond the third company to opportunities across the studio.

They're looking for:

  • High cognitive flexibility. Sharp, versatile problem solver. Curious to figure out new questions.
  • Proactive ownership. You like to execute. Fast and effective. Hands-on, excited to dig into problems.
  • Grit. Ability to handle high-stakes situations, recover quickly from challenges, and maintain performance under ambiguity.
  • EQ. Navigate interpersonal dynamics, manage conflict, and communicate well.

Great backgrounds can vary. 5+ years of experience, startups, consulting, finance/investing, or operations could all give you a great foundation.

Some work will be below your capabilities, and some will stretch your experience. That's the stretch that will get you ready to take a leadership role or start your own business in a couple of years.

  • Be hands-on in building a company from its earliest days, with wide visibility into what it takes to lead and build (inside a studio that's done it twice before).
  • Solve a wide range of problems, from strategic to tactical, to round out your toolbox.
  • Work with a team of adults who have started and scaled real companies, and who enjoy the journey of building a company together.
