The Landlord Engagement Consultant plays a key role in expanding affordable housing opportunities by recruiting landlords and property management companies to participate in the Landlord Engagement Unit (LEU) program. This position develops and maintains solid relationships with landlords, community partners and housing service providers while serving as a consistent point of contact throughout each landlord's participation in the program.
Working collaboratively with the LEU Program Manager and other program partners, you'll identify available rental units, address landlord concerns, support successful housing placements and help strengthen partnerships that increase access to safe, stable housing throughout Wake County.
In this role, you will:
Recruit and develop relationships with landlords and property management companies to increase the availability of affordable housing units
Identify landlord engagement opportunities through property records, real estate developers and investors, property management and landlord associations, industry groups, community organizations, social media and other outreach channels
Serve as the primary point of contact for landlords throughout their participation in the LEU program
Collaborate with service providers and community partners to address landlord concerns, facilitate landlord vendor setup and support the resolution of participant housing issues
Plan for and communicate available rental units to program staff, service providers and community partners
Provide exceptional customer service while building and maintaining positive relationships with landlords, participants, service providers, contracting agencies and community partners
Support compliance with program expectations, processes and contractual obligations
Develop landlord engagement and recognition strategies, including appreciation events, landlord spotlights and other initiatives that encourage continued participation in the LEU program
Recommend improvements to outreach, engagement and service delivery processes that strengthen program effectiveness and landlord retention

About Our Team
The goal of Wake County Department of Housing Affordability & Community Revitalization is to ensure that quality affordable housing is available for all Wake County residents. As the population and economy continue to grow in Wake County, the need for affordable housing development and preservation increases. Not only do more units of affordable housing need to be built, but housing services must also be provided to support families and individuals to access or maintain safe, decent, affordable housing. Affordable housing is also critical to preserving Wake County’s economic competitiveness by offering housing for workers at all income levels, supporting housing stability and economic opportunity for its residents and furthering Wake County’s commitment to healthy and inclusive growth. The Department’s programs include Community Revitalization, Development Financing, Rental Assistance, Homeless Services, Community Outreach, Emergency Shelter and Permanent Supportive Housing.
The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
Bachelor's degree in relevant field
Three (3) years in leasing, real estate, city planning/public policy, subsidy programs marketing, or sales
Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record
Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)
Three (3) years of property management experience
Three (3) years of experience working in leasing, real estate, city planning, public policy, subsidy programs marketing or sales
Two (2) years of experience working in affordable housing and/or homelessness

Solid organizational, time management and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities
Ability to influence, negotiate and build consensus while maintaining positive working relationships
Commitment to Housing First principles and ability to serve individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability
Proficient skills in Microsoft Office 365 applications, including Outlook, Teams, Word and Excel
