Multilingual Learners Case Manager

The Multilingual Learners (ML) Case Manager plays a central instructional role in the fulfillment of KIPP Chicago’s mission by directly impacting the academic success of all Multilingual Learners. The ML Case Manager is responsible for quality multilingual instruction and managing all services to support Multilingual Learners at a specific school. In addition to providing ESL instruction with small groups of students, the ML CM maintains current and complete records of students in the program and manages screening, testing, and parent communication. The MLCM reports to the School Leader and follows the same calendar as Classroom Teachers.

The Multilingual Learners Case Manager is charged with meeting the following Key Performance Indicators:

  • 100% of applicable students complete Screener tests

  • 100% of applicable students participate in yearly ACCESS English Proficiency tests.

  • All students in the ML program receive passing grades in all subjects.

  • 100% of ML Students meet individual DIBELS reading and iReady Math goals.

  • 100% compliance across all schools with all ML program regulations, meaning that all schools are fully prepared for a successful ML program audit visit at any time.

  • Regular and reliable on-site attendance is essential to performing the responsibilities of this role.

Multilingual Learners Instruction

  • Teach English as a Second Language lessons with small groups of all ML students to help them develop their English proficiency skills.

  • Provide bilingual instruction and support of grade-level academic content, through either co-teaching in general education classrooms, content review sessions, or a combination of both.

  • Create differentiated lesson plans designed to build bilingual students’ English skills in Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing in order to help them become more successful in their regular classroom.

  • Provide students with Spanish-language instructional support to facilitate their comprehension and retention of grade-level content.

  • Administer the annual ACCESS English proficiency test.

  • Attend professional development sessions to learn best practices for teaching ML students.

  • Must be willing to provide instruction, translation, or other ML-related services at other campuses, if determined to be necessary by the Achievement Director for Multilingual Learners.

Multilingual Learners Case Management

Manage 100% compliance with ML testing and case management, including but not limited to:

  • Create ESL/bilingual instruction schedules that allow each ML student to receive regular instruction to increase their English proficiency in order to succeed academically, based on requirements set by state and district authorities.

  • Maintain records of all ML students, based on protocol set by state and district authorities.

  • Manage and administer ML diagnostic screener to new students in order to determine their placement in the ML program, based on protocol set by state and district authorities.

  • Monitor students’ progress in general education setting and collaborate with other teachers to help support students as needed (for current ML students and students transitioning out of the program).

  • Advocate for equitable and high-quality instruction for all MLs, and share best practices with teammates.

  • Coordinate the administration of the ACCESS English proficiency test across all grades in order to ensure compliance with regulations.

  • Lead effective parent meetings with students on ML caseload, and communicate with bilingual parents regularly about their students’ progress.

  • Attend mandatory EL Program Teacher (ELPT) Trainings led by the CPS Office of Multilingual and Multicultural Education (OMME) to maintain knowledge of current ML program regulations.

  • If applicable, support other K-8 ESL/Bilingual teachers at other campuses, including but not limited to: providing lesson planning and assessment resources, leading team meetings to share compliance requirements and instructional practices, creating and revising instructional schedules to best serve students’ needs.

  • As needed, provide translation of materials and meetings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (required)

  • Illinois Professional Educators License (PEL) with Bilingual and/or ESL endorsement, (required)

  • Written and oral fluency in Spanish (required).

  • At least two years prior success as a lead classroom teacher (required).

  • Substantial prior experience working with Multilingual Learner students (required).

  • A cleared CPS Background check before start of employment (required)
