Tutor, Alpha - $100,000/year USD at Crossover
The most meaningful support you can offer a student sitting at 99% of their weekly target is to hold the line. Not out of indifference, but because you know they can reach 100%, and accepting less would be the actual disservice.
You are not a traditional teacher. At Alpha, academic content is delivered through AI-powered adaptive learning platforms. There are no lectures, no textbooks, no whiteboard instruction. Motivation and life skills—elements that conventional schools treat as secondary—are your entire focus.
Consider a typical Tuesday. Half your day is spent facilitating one-hour workshops for a K-8 cohort, covering topics like public speaking, focus strategies, and how to give and receive meaningful feedback. The other half is dedicated to working with those same students individually or in small groups, reviewing their Coachbot analytics, and driving each one toward 100% completion of their weekly app goals through school currency, leaderboards, and the trust you've established with them.
Your success each quarter is measured by three metrics: every student in your cohort completes their weekly app goals, every student passes the Test2Pass mastery assessment for each workshop, and 90% or more report that they love you. Falling short on any one of these means the role hasn't been fulfilled.
The reward comes the day a student who claimed in September that they were terrible at math asks you to increase their target.
This is a full-time, on-site position at an Alpha campus. We recruit across the country, so job listings may appear in nearby cities where we do not yet have a campus.
Current openings at this salary level are located in Scottsdale, AZ; Oklahoma City and Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Dallas, Plano, Fort Worth, Houston, and Brownsville, TX; Springfield, MA; and Park City, UT.
If you're drawn to a different Alpha campus, submit your application and indicate your preferred location—we'll review you for the relevant opening.
If you've coached youth sports, led a cabin at camp, or tutored a student on the verge of quitting, the final step before an offer is a full day on campus coaching actual Alpha students. If that's the part of the process you're most excited about, apply today.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops for K-8 cohorts, addressing public speaking, focus, and the practice of giving and receiving feedback
- Conducting daily 1:1 and small-group motivation sessions designed to guide every student to 100% of their weekly app goals, leveraging Coachbot analytics and Alpha's incentive structures (school currency, leaderboards)
- Delivering the Test2Pass mastery assessment for each life skill, then providing additional coaching to any student who does not pass until mastery is achieved
- Modifying the workshop playbook and creating new sessions as needed, ensuring the content resonates with both kindergarteners and 8th graders
- Serving as both the adult who upholds high expectations and the adult your students actively choose to confide in
What You Won’t Be Doing
- Teaching at a whiteboard, creating lesson plans for math and reading, or grading assignments; academic instruction is handled by the apps
- Conducting standardized test prep or being accountable for class-wide test performance
- Managing parent conferences, emails, and concerns; campus leadership handles all parent-facing communication
- Controlling large groups of 30 students simultaneously; cohorts are intentionally small and behavior support here is delivered through 1:1 coaching
- Passively monitoring students at computers; motivation work here is active and relational
