Data Analyst at Unite America
Unite America seeks a Data Analyst, reporting to the Sr. Director of Enterprise Systems & Operations, to serve as the embedded business partner for a fundraising team on all things data, reporting, and lightweight infrastructure.
This role will primarily focus on recurring reports, dashboards, data pulls, data-quality checks, and operational analysis. This person will help fundraising leadership understand pipeline health, campaign performance, revenue forecasts, portfolio movement, and team operating metrics.
About 25% of the role will focus on building and improving practical team infrastructure. That may include ad hoc tools such as a Google Sheets-based event invite tracker, or more durable systems such as expanding an Airtable configuration to support a new fundraising workflow. In all cases, new infrastructure should strengthen the resilience of the fundraising data ecosystem and ensure that important data eventually makes its way into Salesforce.
This is a hands-on analyst role for someone who is strong with messy data, comfortable working in Salesforce, and able to turn ambiguous fundraising needs into reliable reports, workflows, and tools.
Unite America believes that there is strength in diversity and strongly encourages candidates from diverse backgrounds and from across the political and ideological spectrum to apply.
Denver-based candidates are strongly preferred, though exceptional remote candidates will also be considered. Relocation support is available for candidates interested in moving to the Denver area. Remote employees should expect to travel at least four times per year for organizational retreats and meetings.
OUR ORGANIZATION
Unite America is a non-partisan, philanthropic venture fund that invests in candidates, campaigns, and organizations in order to advance nonpartisan election reforms that will foster a more representative and functional government capable of solving America’s most pressing challenges.
Founded in 2014, Unite America and its 35+ person team has grown to be a leader in the democracy reform movement. The organization has existed in its current form, and with its current primary focus, since 2019; in that time, we have successfully mobilized tens of millions of dollars from scores of philanthropists to candidates and reform campaigns across the country.
At Unite America, we are working to build a more representative and functional government that puts voters first and reflects the diversity of our country, and an inclusive democracy in which leaders embrace problem-solving over fueling divisiveness. Likewise, we have a vision of building an organization that reflects diverse identities, experiences, and perspectives, a culture of working across differences toward common goals, and a workplace where everyone feels included, respected, and heard. To that end, Unite America is proud to have made diversifying our team, ensuring more equitable opportunity, and fostering a culture of belonging a priority. Our organizational values reinforce this commitment as we work to model the leadership we seek, solve problems together, and take care of one another, to name a few.
Requirements
RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting & Analysis
- Build, maintain, and improve reports and dashboards for fundraising pipeline, campaign performance, donor/prospect segmentation, portfolio activity, revenue forecasting, board/leadership reporting, and team operating cadences.
- Pull, combine, clean, validate, and analyze data from Salesforce and adjacent systems before drawing conclusions or publishing reports.
- Serve as the fundraising team’s first-line data partner for Salesforce reporting questions, list pulls, imports/exports, segmentation, ad hoc analysis, and recurring report production.
- Translate fundraising questions into clear metrics, reporting requirements, dashboard logic, documented definitions, and usable operating tools.
Data Infrastructure & Workflow Tools
- Build lightweight infrastructure for team needs, such as spreadsheet-based trackers, intake forms, Airtable workflows, data review tools, and other fit-for-purpose systems.
- Ensure new tools and workflows are designed with Salesforce as the eventual source of truth for important donor, prospect, activity, pipeline, campaign, and revenue data.
Data Quality, Documentation & Standards
- Identify data-quality issues such as duplicates, stale records, missing fields, inconsistent campaign coding, unclear ownership, and unreliable pipeline stages; recommend and help implement practical fixes.
- Maintain documentation for recurring reports, metric definitions, data-entry standards, audit routines, infrastructure workflows, and common reporting processes.
Cross-Functional Coordination & Enablement
- Partner with the central Strategy & Operations team on data architecture, metric design, QA processes, analytical standards, and cross-team reporting alignment.
- Support finance reconciliation, pledge/proposal/gift tracking, and related workflows that require accurate handoffs between fundraising, operations, and finance.
- Communicate technical issues in plain language and coach fundraisers on how to interact with systems and tools so they best serve their needs and produce the best outcomes.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
This role may be a strong fit if you enjoy making messy data usable, building reports that people trust, and creating practical tools that help a small team operate with better visibility. The strongest candidates will combine analytical rigor with operational judgment: they will know when a problem requires a better dashboard, when it requires cleaner source data, when it requires a lightweight workflow tool, and when it requires a clearer operating process.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 2–5+ years of experience in fundraising operations, development operations, revenue operations, sales operations, CRM/data operations, business intelligence, or a similar analytical operations role.
- Strong reporting and dashboarding skills, with the ability to design clear, reliable reports for both leadership and frontline users.
- Hands-on experience working with Salesforce data, especially reports, dashboards, exports, fields, related records, and basic data model concepts.
- Very strong spreadsheet skills, including pivot tables, lookups, conditional logic, data validation, formulas, cleaning messy exports, and building reviewable tools in Excel or Google Sheets.
- Demonstrated ability to clean and validate messy data before analysis, document assumptions, and distinguish between a true trend and a data-quality problem.
- Ability to translate ambiguous stakeholder needs into clear reporting requirements, practical workflows, and usable tools.
- Strong attention to detail, judgment, confidentiality, and follow-through.
- Strong desire to fix a broken political system and a passion for our mission
- While experience supporting a nonprofit fundraising team is desirable, we welcome candidates with the required skills and qualifications from other professional backgrounds, as well.
