HIRING CONTACT: Sara Barber, 903-597-5338, Email Address: ***email_hidden*** WORK ADDRESS: Tyler State Park, 789 Park Road 16, Tyler, TX 75706 GENERAL DESCRIPTION:Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, this position performs complex (journey-level) building maintenance and construction work. Responsible for facility, grounds, and equipment maintenance at Tyler State Park. Performs work in the outdoors in extreme weather conditions and in uneven/challenging terrain. Operates all types of tools/equipment such as trucks, tractors, mowers, hand tools, and power tools. Performs routine grounds maintenance and preventative maintenance (cleaning/inspecting) duties of park facilities. Provides quality visitor services and may be involved with issuing permits, collecting revenue, providing information, registering visitors using an automated registration system, staffing special events or managing visitor/traffic flow, and assisting with emergency operations. Performs duties in accordance with the state parks safety program. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education:Graduation from High School or GED.Experience:Three years of facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance experience. Licensure:Must possess or be able to obtain within 30 days a valid state driver's license.NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required license. ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS:Experience:Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum substitution of two years. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Experience:Experience working with the public.Experience with customer service and public relations.Bilingual in English and Spanish. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Knowledge of building and facility repair techniques such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, or mechanical.Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, janitorial, and mechanical maintenance and repair tasks.Knowledge of basic mathematics.Knowledge of natural and cultural resource protection techniques.Knowledge of the construction, repair, maintenance, and operation of buildings, equipment, and utility systems.Knowledge of building materials.Skill in using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.Skill in effective verbal and written communication. Skill in the use of hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chain saws, tractors, vehicles, generators, and other mechanical equipment.Skill in making independent, sound, and timely decisions.Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and a harmonious team environment.Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner.Skill in selecting appropriate tools and equipment and in troubleshooting situations to determine appropriate actions to resolve problems.Ability to work effectively with the public.Ability to work as a member of a team.Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.Ability to work under stressful conditions.Ability to handle multiple changing priorities and projects or tasks simultaneously.Ability to perform manual labor such as grounds, facility, and trail maintenance.Ability to follow instructio s.Ability to work from drawings, diagrams, or blueprints.Ability to estimate materials.Ability to apply proper methods, techniques, and procedures in the maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment.Ability to provide guidance to others.Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program. WORKING CONDITIONS:Required to work in a public park with overnight camping and day use.Required to work 40 hours per week that includes various schedules, hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with days off other than Saturday, Sunday, and holidays.Required to respond to emergencies and on-call situations.Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather and traversing steep/rugged terrain.Required to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.May be required to operate a State vehicle.Required to travel 5% with occasional overnight stays.Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules, and safety procedures.Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
