Life Is Better at Heartstrings
Heartstrings Pet Hospice is a privately owned veterinary organization dedicated to helping pets and the people who love them navigate one of life's most difficult transitions with compassion, dignity, and respect.
We specialize in In-Home Pet Hospice, Palliative Care, Quality-of-Life Support, Tele-Hospice, and Peaceful In-Home Euthanasia, allowing families to receive compassionate veterinary care in the place their pet knows best - home.
As Heartstrings continues expanding across the United States, we're looking for an exceptional relationship-builder to help us strengthen connections with veterinary professionals and introduce more communities to the Heartstrings standard of care.
This isn't simply a "sales" position.
It's an opportunity to build meaningful relationships within veterinary medicine, represent a growing privately owned veterinary organization, and help ensure that more families know compassionate end-of-life care is available when they need it most.
The Opportunity
Heartstrings Pet Hospice is seeking a Veterinary Community Relations Specialist to serve as a trusted connection between Heartstrings and the veterinary clinics and communities we serve nationwide.
You'll spend much of your time in the field meeting veterinarians, practice managers, veterinary technicians, client-service representatives, hospital leadership, and other veterinary professionals.
Your goal is straightforward: build trust before a family ever needs us.
You'll educate veterinary teams about Heartstrings' services, provide resources they can confidently share with pet parents, strengthen existing referral relationships, and develop new partnerships within established and emerging Heartstrings markets.
You'll also represent Heartstrings at veterinary conferences, association meetings, educational programs, community events, and industry gatherings across the country.
When you're not traveling, you'll continue nurturing those relationships through virtual meetings, email, digital outreach, social engagement, and thoughtful follow-up.
What You'll Do
- Build relationships with veterinary practices. Meet veterinarians, practice managers, technicians, client-service teams, and hospital leadership while developing authentic, long-term relationships within the veterinary community.
- Travel throughout Heartstrings markets. Visit veterinary hospitals and communities across the United States, with approximately 70% travel expected.
- Cover at least three Heartstrings markets each month. Plan efficient routes, coordinate practice visits, manage follow-ups, and ensure both established and growing markets receive consistent support.
- Educate veterinary teams. Clearly explain Heartstrings' approach to quality-of-life assessment, hospice and palliative care, telehospice, in-home euthanasia, and end-of-life support so veterinary teams can confidently discuss these resources with families.
- Support referral partnerships. Make it easy for veterinary hospitals to understand when Heartstrings may be appropriate for their clients and how families can access our services.
- Represent Heartstrings nationally. Attend veterinary conferences, industry events, local veterinary medical association meetings, lunch-and-learns, educational programs, and other professional events.
- Keep relationships strong between visits. Maintain consistent communication through virtual meetings, email outreach, social engagement, educational resources, and personalized follow-up.
- Support new-market launches. Help introduce Heartstrings veterinarians and services to veterinary communities as we expand into new markets.
- Track your outreach. Document practice visits, contacts, conversations, opportunities, follow-ups, and outcomes in our CRM so we can understand what's working market by market.
- Bring intelligence back to Heartstrings. You'll hear directly from veterinary professionals about what their teams and clients need. We want those insights helping shape our services, resources, and future growth.
- Identify new opportunities. Pay attention to veterinary industry trends, referral needs, educational opportunities, competitive activity, and emerging ways Heartstrings can better support veterinary teams and pet families.
Requirements
Who We're Looking For
You're comfortable walking into a veterinary hospital where no one knows you and leaving with the beginning of a genuine relationship.
You understand that successful veterinary outreach isn't about delivering a sales pitch. It's about listening, earning trust, following through, and becoming a reliable resource for the veterinary professionals caring for families every day.
You should be compassionate enough to understand the deeply emotional nature of our work and confident enough to represent Heartstrings professionally across the country.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of Professional Sales, Business Development, Community Outreach, Veterinary Relations, or Partnership-Development Experience Required
- Veterinary, animal health, pet care, healthcare, pharmaceutical, or veterinary industry experience strongly preferred
- Must live within approximately 45 minutes of a major commercial airport
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 70%, including overnight travel
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain professional relationships
- Excellent organizational, territory-planning, and time-management skills
- Ability to manage multiple markets, relationships, follow-ups, and priorities simultaneously
- Comfortable working independently in a remote environment with limited supervision
- Confident, resourceful, and self-motivated
- Strong listening and critical-thinking skills
- Comfortable speaking with veterinarians, practice owners, hospital leadership, technicians, client-service teams, and other veterinary professionals
- Experience using CRM platforms and digital productivity tools
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace preferred
- Comfortable learning new software, technology, and internal systems
- Ability to represent Heartstrings professionally at conferences, veterinary hospitals, educational events, and industry gatherings
- Some evening and weekend availability may be required for conferences, events, travel, and other business needs
The Person Who Thrives Here
You may be a strong fit if you:
- Build relationships naturally rather than transactionally
- Enjoy traveling and meeting new people
- Are comfortable creating your own schedule and managing your territory
- Follow through when you say you're going to do something
- Can communicate with both warmth and professionalism
- Understand that trust is earned over time
- Don't need someone constantly telling you what to do next
- Enjoy helping build something that's growing
- Care deeply about veterinary medicine, pets, and the people who love them
- Want your work to have a meaningful impact
Most importantly, you understand that behind every veterinary referral is a family facing an extraordinarily difficult decision.
That responsibility matters to us.
