Do you believe that genuine learning begins with trust, joy, and active engagement?

Alpha School is redefining education by enabling children to achieve academic milestones rapidly, creating space for deeper work on essential life capabilities. In Pre-K, this begins at an even more foundational level: building emotional security, sparking curiosity, and developing the resilience to explore.

Your role: guide an in-person Pre-K cohort in NYC that develops a love for learning while demonstrating early-learning gains approximately twice those seen in conventional preschool settings. You will craft deliberate, sensory-driven play experiences aligned to developmental objectives, track progress each week, and adapt quickly to meet each child's evolving needs.

NYC offers: abundant parks for outdoor exploration, vibrant neighborhoods with engaged family networks, exceptional public transportation, and proximity to innovative early childhood education communities.

Cultivate joy. Accelerate development. Apply today.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Plan and lead play-based learning sessions lasting 30–60 minutes that foster joy, emotional security, and quantifiable developmental progress
  • Build a classroom environment rich in movement and sensory experiences to sustain engagement and support multi-modal learning for four-year-olds
  • Conduct live observation and documentation: Record objective, same-day notes connected to developmental domains, and refresh each child's milestone tracking weekly
  • Leverage data to shape instruction: Review weekly documentation to pinpoint each child's emerging growth opportunities and design targeted, responsive instructional adjustments
  • Develop personalized, interest-driven activity modifications for individual children, integrate one focused developmental target, and reassess outcomes within two weeks
  • Support children navigating frustration through composed co-regulation and structured emotional guidance rather than punitive behavior management
  • Maintain clear, proactive communication with families regarding student progress, daily routines, and developing needs

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Approach Pre-K as custodial care instead of purposeful early education
  • Default to scripted worksheets or compliance-centered teaching methods
  • Devote the majority of your time to supervising academic software rather than facilitating live, tactile learning experiences
  • Apply punitive behavior management instead of calm co-regulation and emotional coaching

Senior Pre-Kindergarten Educator Key Responsibilities

Ensure NYC Pre-K students develop a passion for school while exhibiting accelerated early-learning outcomes through purposeful, play-driven instruction.

Basic Requirements

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, OR CDA/Montessori/Reggio certification
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience working with children aged 3–5 in a structured group environment (classroom-based, not exclusively individual care)
  • Confirmed track record facilitating play-based learning that produces visible developmental advancement
  • Documented capacity to record developmental milestones objectively and reliably on a weekly basis using an established framework or rubric
  • Advanced relationship-building and emotional sensitivity: Capacity to establish trust rapidly, interpret emotional signals precisely, and apply personalized motivators to drive engagement
  • Co-regulation and frustration support: Assist children through emotional escalation using composed modeling and systematic emotional instruction
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship requirements
  • Available to work full-time on-site in New York City, NY
