Optometry Technician at Katmai
SUMMARY
Provide a wide variety of duties to assist the optometrist/ophthalmologist as appropriate to the level of certification (i.e., COA, COT, or COMT).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
· Obtain patient histories, perform prescription verification, and maintain patient records.
· Assist in testing patient vision. Test far and near acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color perception.
· Examine the eye, using slit lamp, for abnormalities of cornea, and anterior and posterior chambers.
· Apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes.
· Measure intraocular pressure of eyes (glaucoma test).
· Test field of vision, including central and peripheral vision, for defects, and chart test results on graph paper.
· Measure axial length of eye, using ultrasound equipment.
· Instruct patients concerning eye care and contact lens handling.
· Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
· Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Must possess a high school diploma or GED certificate.
• Must possess and maintain current certification as an Optometry Technician OR a completed a formal ophthalmic training program of the United Stated Armed Forces.
• Must possess a minimum of one (1) year full-time experience within the last two (2) years as an Optician or Optometry Technician in a clinical setting.
• Must have an Active BLS Certification.
• Must obtain and maintain any necessary security access and/or background checks.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
· Experience assisting with ophthalmic examinations and procedures.
· Knowledge of ophthalmic equipment and clinical practices.
· Strong communication, organizational, and patient service skills.
WORK SCHEDULE
Full-time. May be required to work additional hours as needed to complete assignment or project.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed primarily in a clinical eye care or medical office setting. Employee works with patients, ophthalmic equipment, and medical supplies and frequently interacts with optometrists, ophthalmologists, and other healthcare personnel.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Position requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, and use of hands for operating ophthalmic equipment and assisting with patient care. Requires close visual attention, manual dexterity, and the ability to assist with patient positioning and routine clinical procedures.
