Senior Manager of Comms and Culture at Magic Spoon

Date: 1 hour ago
City: New York, NY
Contract type: Full time

Magic Spoon reimagines your childhood breakfasts favorites with more protein, less sugar, and more fun. Since launching in 2019, we've brought our unbelievably tasty cereal to over one million customers online and over 20,000 stores nationwide. With our recently launched Protein Oatmeal and Protein Granola we're continuing to find new ways to make mornings magical - all made possible by our incredible team.

The Role

Magic Spoon is visually loud by design. We’re looking for someone to help make us culturally louder, buzzier, and harder to ignore. We’re hiring a Senior Manager, Comms & Culture to own how Magic Spoon shows up in culture. That means social, influencers, affiliates, PR, earned media.

The goal isn’t just reach, impressions, or transactions. It’s to build a brand people want to talk about, share, follow, and be associated with. You’ll think about influencers and affiliates as more than a conversion channel, PR as more than getting placements, and social as more than a content calendar. Together, these should be powerful levers for building cultural relevance, conversation, and brand heat.

You’ll build and lead a team and be the person in the room making sure everything we put into the world feels unmistakably Magic Spoon and impossible to scroll past.

This is a player-coach role. You’ll set the direction, but you’ll also get your hands dirty. If you’d rather manage a strategy deck than jump into a Slack thread about whether a meme is already dead, this probably isn’t the role.

You’ll report into our CMO and lead a team of direct report(s), including our current Social Media Manager, as well as future hires as the team grows.

This is a full time role with a preference for in person/hybrid work based in Tribeca, New York City (Tue/Wed/Thu in office). We are also open to remote candidates across the US.

What You’ll Own

Cultural relevance. You know what’s happening online and in culture before it makes its way into a marketing trends deck. You’ll bring trends, talent, formats, conversations, and cultural moments into the building and turn them into things Magic Spoon can actually do, quickly.

Brand buzz. Social, PR, earned media, influencers, affiliates, partnerships, and creative all work together toward one goal: getting more people talking about Magic Spoon because they genuinely want to.

PR and earned media. Lead Magic Spoon’s PR strategy and agency partner. You’ll find stories worth telling, create moments that earn attention, and make sure launches and brand initiatives break outside of our owned channels. You’ll also know when the best PR idea isn’t a press release, but something weird, surprising, or culturally relevant enough that people can’t help but talk about it.

Influencer and affiliate ecosystem. Build a network of creators, tastemakers, partners, and affiliates who can drive the business while also making the brand more relevant. You’ll think beyond one-off sponsored posts and promo codes to create longer-term relationships, unexpected collaborations, cultural credibility, and a community of people who genuinely want to be part of Magic Spoon.

Social that people actually want to follow. In partnership with the the social media manager, build an owned social presence that feels more like entertainment than advertising. You’ll push the team to experiment, react quickly, create recurring formats, and find unexpected ways for Magic Spoon to participate in culture.

Cross-functional partnership. Work closely with Brand, Growth, and Design so the culture engine supports the bigger marketing and commercial calendar while still having the freedom to move quickly when opportunities emerge.

Speed and instinct. You’re comfortable making a fast call on something scrappy and low-cost, seeing what happens, and moving on. Not everything needs a brief, a deck, or six rounds of approval.

Requirements

  • 6+ years in, social, communications, influencer, PR, or brand marketing, with meaningful experience managing people, not just projects.
  • A track record of making a brand feel culturally alive. You can point to work you led that actually broke through, generated conversation, or changed how people thought about a brand.
  • Sharp creative judgment and the taste to know the difference between being part of culture and trying too hard to be part of culture.
  • Experience leading PR and earned media, either directly or through agency partners. You know how to turn brand and business moments into stories people actually care about and have strong instincts for what can earn attention.
  • Experience building influencer and creator programs that go beyond transactional paid partnerships. You understand how creators, affiliates, tastemakers, PR, and owned social can work together to build both brand heat and business results.
  • Comfort operating with speed and imperfect information. You’d rather try ten smart, scrappy things and let a few really pop than spend months perfecting one big bet.
  • A genuine point of view on internet culture, social platforms, creators, media, and what makes people actually want to share something.
  • Strong collaborator instincts. This role only works if you’re deeply plugged into Brand, Growth, Design, and the broader business rather than operating in a silo.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in food, beverage, or CPG, especially at a challenger or DTC-native brand.
  • Based in or willing to travel to NYC. It’s not required, but our team culture leans toward in-person energy and we’d love to have you nearby.
  • A personal social presence or point of view that shows you actually live in the culture you’re being hired to tap into.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary & equity
  • Bonus eligibility
  • 100% covered Health, Vision, Dental insurance (50% covered for dependents)
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Generous parental leave
  • Flexible vacation
  • Paid company holidays
  • Paid sick leave
  • Catered lunch in office
  • Dog friendly office
  • Unlimited cereal
