Opportunity Summary

This role sits at the heart of quality and precision for a well-established aerospace and defense manufacturer, where product integrity depends on dimensional accuracy right from the first piece. You'll be the hands-on gatekeeper operating coordinate measuring machines and precision inspection equipment to ensure complex machined and die-cast components meet exacting tolerance standards. It’s a position that gives you real ownership and visibility on the shop floor while providing a structured growth path toward advanced CMM setup, program interpretation, and dimensional metrology.

Responsibilities

• Perform in-process, first piece, final Detailed Inspection Plan (DIP), and assigned dimensional inspections using established plans and quality procedures.
• Load and run approved CMM programs under guidance, verify correct program revision, establish part orientation, and safely position or fixture components.
• Measure features using conventional precision inspection tools, including calipers, micrometers, height gages, indicators, pin/thread/bore gages, and surface plates.
• Read and interpret part numbers, drawing revisions, engineering prints, basic GD&T callouts, work orders, routers, and specifications.
• Review CMM output for completeness, compare results against engineering requirements, and promptly escalate out-of-tolerance or nonconforming conditions.
• Document inspection results accurately in electronic quality systems to maintain complete lot traceability, acceptance records, and inspection stamps.
• Support First Article Inspection (FAI) data collection, ballooned drawing reviews, and dimensional result completion under direction.
• Collaborate across Quality and Production teams to communicate inspection status, verify calibration of tools before use, and keep parts safe from damage or contamination.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or associate degree preferred.
• 1+ years of dimensional inspection, quality, machining, manufacturing, or related technical experience (relevant technical education may substitute).
• Hands-on experience using common precision hand tools such as calipers and micrometers.
• Ability to read basic engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, part numbers, revisions, and work order documentation.
• Basic computer skills and willingness to learn CMM software, electronic quality systems, and inspection reporting.
• Strong attention to detail, basic shop math skills, integrity, and the willingness to ask questions when measurement results are uncertain.
• Ability to work full-time onsite on the assigned shift and comply with U.S. export control requirements.

Preferred

• Technical certificate or coursework in metrology, machining, manufacturing, quality, or engineering technology.
• Exposure to CMM operation and metrology software such as PC-DMIS or Calypso.
• Familiarity with GD&T, First Article Inspections (AS9102), surface plate setups, CNC machined parts, or castings.
• Background in aerospace and defense manufacturing or regulated quality environments.
