ESL Teacher - Beginner level class at Angels For Action Inc

We are a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization, dedicated to sponsoring free education and community services. Programs include computer literacy, English and career training. We also provide advocacy services for individual rights. We execute positive solutions that help our community grow and improve in the various areas that affect our daily lives.

URGENT NEED

Our normal teacher for Saturdays had a last minute update in his work schedule, now he is unavailable to teach this class. We are seeking a replacement for Saturdays this Fall . Our program is usually 3 sessions a year. This Fall session runs from september to december, once a week.

We are flexible If you can not volunteer the whole time. We will work with you.

More class info

• Saturdays 11 00 am - 1 pm (can be 1.5 to 2 hours, flexible)
• Located in Plainfield
• Focus on beginner course, where students are not advanced (but at times there can be).
• Can be held in our conference room - can fit up to about 10 ( pushing it can be up to 16ish). Up to you how many people you would like in a class.
• We have volunteers interested in assisting (but not experienced enough to be a teacher), so you can have a helper during this time.
• If there is extra material needed, we can discuss and provide if needed

Looking for

• An experienced english teacher or who is passionate about ESL
• Since we need someone right away, if they have a general curriculum would be perferred
• Our teachers all had their own agendas and curriculum but we do have past worksheets and some books we have used previously
• Familiar with working with the vulnerable population and conducting a classroom
• sometimes students may be able to speak ok but have no skill in writing, etc
• Many may never have attended school or completed high school. So structure doesn't need to be a very strict classroom environment, it can be informal and flexible.
• These are mostly working adults, so you need to use your best judgment on giving assignments
• The majority is of hispanic origin, but we get people from all backgrounds. We can have a helpers whom are bilingual, if needed.
• Being able to keep track of attendance.
• If away for certain days, needs to have a clear written plan set so a substitute volunteer can take over in emergencies.
