The salary for this position is: $30.77 - $35.71 per hour.
Summary: The Migration Counselor provides paralegal support and immigration services under attorney supervision, including consultations, application assistance, and necessary follow-up services.
The Migration Counselor also prepares and delivers presentations on various immigration issues with attorney review. This position is grant-funded and employment is contingent on continued funding.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Conduct intake interviews at various CCCS sites in the five boroughs of New York City and the seven counties of the Lower Hudson Valley, if needed (or remotely, in accordance with applicable agency protocols) under attorney supervision.
2. Participate in regularly rotating legal clinic events at various CCCS sites to provide support with initial consultations, limited scope application assistance, client declaration support, and other discrete case tasks.
3. Under attorney supervision, prepare, review, complete, submit, and follow-up on applications in routine types of immigration matters, including but not limited to: basic consultations, relative petitions, naturalization petitions, adjustment of status applications, employment authorization applications, and green card replacement applications.,
4. Work with immigrant youth and non-citizens and provide assistance as they apply for humanitarian forms of relief including asylum, self-petitions for special immigrant juveniles and battered immigrant spouses and children, and U and T visa applications for victims of crimes or of human trafficking.
5. Support and assist attorneys in immigration and family court litigation matters .
6. Provide clerical support to attorneys and legal representatives.
7. Prepare for and conduct presentations, workshops and outreach events on various immigration issues throughout the Archdiocese of New York (or remotely, in accordance with applicable agency protocols).
8. Maintain and update physical and digital client files in accordance with agency policy and NYS ethics standards.
9. Maintain and report statistical data as required.
10. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are generally 9:00 AM to 5 PM Monday - Friday. Additional hours are required to meet court and/or program deadlines, or client needs. Program employees are expected on site 3 days per week and may work remotely 2 days per week.

· Subject to applicable agency safety protocols, travel at least 15% of the time using public transportation or vehicle, traverse city streets, occasionally ascend/descend stairs, and be exposed to outside weather conditions.
· Remain stationary at a work station and in meetings, and use a computer at least 75% of the time.
· Remain stationary and/or ambulate to instruct and monitor during trainings and presentations.
· Carry a laptop to offsite work locations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent professional training related to the position required.
2. Previous experience in immigration law and procedures preferred.
Skills, Licenses, and/or competencies required:
- Written and verbal Spanish language proficiency required
2. Comprehensive knowledge of software appropriate to the office environment.
3. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
4. Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Good interpersonal skills and an ability to work with clients from different cultures and backgrounds.
6. Ability to travel throughout the Archdiocese.
