About FieldWrk & Our Mission

FieldWrk is a mission-first B2B branding agency built for the essential people and companies who build and maintain our world. Our mission is to help hardworking people and companies reach their full potential, starting with our team.

We are a strategic agency that offers branding, web design and development, field photo and video production, and digital marketing services. We partner with leaders in civil construction, heavy equipment, waste and environmental services, energy, and critical infrastructure to build brands that work as hard as the people behind them.

About This Role & Its Impact:

Your mission as Brand Strategist, should you choose to accept it: build brands that create real, measurable business impact for our infrastructure clients. NOTE: this role requires travel and facilitating workshops with executive leaders.

This role exists to craft brand foundations and long-term strategies for both our clients and FieldWrk creative teams to carry forward. The brand identities and strategies you create will establish the direction for all deliverables that follow, from websites, social media, and paid ads to production of brand videos, marketing collateral, and campaigns for recruitment and business development. You’ll serve as a guardian of the brand for the duration of client relationships, ensuring our work remains relevant and continues to drive real, measurable business impact as companies scale and grow.

We're looking for a Brand Strategist who knows how to get to the heart of a business, uncover what makes it different, and turn that understanding into a clear, compelling brand strategy that drives measurable impact.

Key Responsibilities & How You'll Spend Your Time

25% — Research and discovery

  • Audit existing client brand identity materials, guidelines, and placements across websites, social media, qualification packages and more.
  • Create and distribute client surveys for internal and external audiences, and pull key insights to guide workshop discussions and recommendations.
  • Conduct employee interviews, both individual and roundtable.
  • Research and evaluate the market landscape, brand competition and each client's unique positioning challenges.
  • Establish a baseline of brand health to measure the impact of our work against.

25% — Workshop facilitation

  • Lead 2–3 day on-site workshops at client headquarters with executive leaders.
  • Build custom presentations to share research findings.
  • Facilitate discussion of purpose, mission, vision, value propositions and values.
  • Challenge assumptions and gain executive buy-in on key messaging.
  • Visit jobsites and meet with client employees.

25% — Brand strategy and verbal identity

  • Develop the brand foundation: positioning, purpose, vision, value proposition, differentiation, brand pillars, audience messaging, tagline and verbal identity.
  • Present, defend and revise strategy with clients.
  • Connect strategy to business goals, recruiting, customer experience and marketing.
  • Translate strategy into direction for web, production and social teams.

25% — Client leadership and ongoing account strategy

  • Lead the strategic relationship with client executives, while PMs own schedule and scope.
  • Run periodic brand and account audits that measure results against each client's baseline.
  • Lead annual strategic account planning with clients and recommend the next scopes of work based on their business goals.
  • Deliver clear handoff briefs to web and production teams.
  • Review creative work for alignment with the strategy and brand standards.
  • Identify gaps in our process and recommend improvements.

Your First 90 Days:

  • By 30 days: You've audited our recent brand work and learned the FieldWrk delivery method. You've completed research on the industries we serve and attended one client workshop for training.
  • By 60 days: You're writing verbal identities under the Director of Strategy's supervision. You've co-led 1–2 workshops and presented strategy to clients, with moderate internal revision.
  • By 90 days: You're leading workshops independently and owning strategy for multiple clients. You're leading handoffs to web and production teams, and your work needs only minor revision.
  • By six months: You're working independently across FieldWrk teams and have contributed to strategy for at least one client campaign beyond the brand foundation.

Requirements

This role requires:

  • 3-5+ years of brand strategy experience at an agency or consultancy, including leading B2B positioning and messaging work.
  • A portfolio of brand strategy and verbal identity work you developed, with the rationale behind your decisions.
  • Senior-level brand copywriting ability.
  • Experience facilitating multi-day workshops with executive teams.
  • Experience presenting to and building trust with executive stakeholders.
  • Experience writing briefs for and collaborating with designers, writers, developers and video teams.
  • Ability to manage 6–8 concurrent engagements.
  • Proficiency in monday.com, Figma and Google Slides.
  • Experience using AI tools for research, competitive audits, and synthesis. NOTE: FieldWrk does not use or accept AI-written copy for any deliverable work. Human-written messaging is a requirement of the Brand Strategist position.
  • Willingness to travel 3–9 days per month.
  • Largely available to work within CST hours (9 AM-5 PM CT)
  • Strong desire to make a positive impact through design for hardworking / construction industries

How You Work / Culture Fit:

  • You are a great listener and question-asker
  • You can build rapport quickly and easily, whether it's a creative designer or a senior executive
  • You think critically, have a healthy skepticism of superficial answers, and have a deep curiosity to understand. You consider the audience, objective, content, and constraints — not just aesthetics — and use critical thinking to arrive at the right solution.
  • You’re a quick learner and comfortable with context switching. You can enter an unfamiliar project, client, or industry, absorb information quickly, and become productive without needing everything spelled out for you. Moving between different clients, projects, and types of work doesn’t derail you.
  • You have a “get it done, do it well” mentality. You care deeply about craft while understanding that great agency work also requires speed, resourcefulness, sound judgment, and follow-through.
  • You take ownership. When you encounter a problem, your instinct is to investigate, ask the right questions, propose a solution, and move the work forward rather than wait for someone else to tell you what to do.
  • You have high standards without being precious. You notice the details and want the work to be excellent, while remaining receptive to feedback, adapting quickly, and knowing when the work is ready to move forward.
  • You’re dependable and collaborative. Your team can trust you to communicate proactively, manage your commitments, raise concerns early, and contribute positively to a fast-moving remote team.
  • You understand that working at an early-stage company sometimes means wearing multiple hats and adapting as the needs of the business evolve.

Our Approach to AI

At FieldWrk, AI is a research assistant — not the strategist or writer. We use it to conduct research, explore directions, generate references, refine presentations, and speed up shallow-work tasks so we can focus on concept, craft, and execution.

Strategists are expected to use AI intentionally and critically. Submitting unedited AI-generated writing, relying on AI for concept development, or skipping the thinking behind the work is not acceptable.

AI Submission Note* AI is a great tool that can help structure thoughts, and we know it can provide complete responses to job postings. For this application, your final submission must be written in your own words and voice.
