Job Summary

The General Manager of Commercial Sales and Operations will have day-to-day leadership responsibility for the sales and operations of our SE MI based commercial tankwagon and transport business. This person will “own” the P&L and drive daily team activity / accomplishments for sales, operations, and strategy. This is a highly visible and complex role, since the candidate will be required to interact extensively at both a senior management and individual contributor level with customers, vendors / suppliers and cross-functional teams including sales, marketing, accounting, finance, human resources, safety and IT, to ensure that the company meets revenue objectives and operates safely and efficiently on every customer delivery. Strong business, sales and financial acumen are required! The successful candidate must be a passionate, entrepreneurial, extremely well organized, detail-oriented and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Primary Responsibilities & Scope

  • General:

  • Oversee the strategic and day-to-day management of the SE MI Tankwagon and Transport business unit to meet achieve budgeted gallon, revenue and net income targets

  • Hire, train, develop and coach a team of sales and operations professionals.

  • Drive customer profitability via proactive margin, service and credit reviews.

  • Establishes strong relationships with our top 50 customers at the “C Level”

  • Routinely prepares analysis and reports on the business including but not limited to sales, margin, operational efficiency and asset utilization for evaluation and recommendation with Leadership

  • Provide recommendations for infrastructure and capital needs to support the business

  • Champion the order to cash cycle by customer to assure timely billing and collection for all accounts

  • 80% of time spent in the field working with sales, operations, and customers

  • Own the identification and resolution for all customer level issues

  • Attend various customer, association, and networking meetings / events as a key stakeholder routinely

  • Sales:

  • Major revenue producer in the organization that can bring new customers from prospect to close consistently, primarily focused on strategic customers

  • Hold sales team accountable to meet sales goals, activity while leveraging CRM for productivity measurement

  • Develop a sales process and value proposition to sell the “total package” to all active and prospective customers to including but not limited to fuel, DEF, lubricants, fuel polishing, equipment and technology to increase share of wallet

  • Review and approve all bids and RFP’s to assure established return thresholds are met

  • Develop a sales incentive structure that drives the behavior needed to meet business plan and focuses on new revenue development

  • Assist in the development and coordination of sales training and incentive programs to drive revenue and effectiveness

  • Operations:

  • General management of the logistics and tank maintenance teams to assure service coverage, route efficiency and equipment uptime meet the customer demands daily

  • Works closely with logistics to minimize stops and maximize gallons on a per customer basis, adjusting keep-fill deliveries and equipment routinely

  • Insures Safety and DOT compliance standards are enforced across the operation

  • Strategy:

  • Actively monitor the competition / competitive landscape and provide insight on business model innovation necessary to stay relevant in all core markets for all products and services

  • Remain current on industry trends and provide strategic recommendations that keep Atlas on the “cutting edge”

  • Assume responsibility for structuring and executing major operational and strategic initiatives; developing work plans, gathering and synthesizing relevant data, leading analysis, and developing final recommendations

Required Experience

  • At least five (5) years of experience in sales operations / sales management or an equivalent combination of work related experience

  • At least two (3) years direct sales experience

  • Experience with CRM, sales reporting and/or knowledge management tools

  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing sales reporting systems, conducting analysis and presenting to senior leadership

  • Experience in business analysis (including implementation, tracking, problem resolution and reporting)

  • Proven track record of working with team leaders and executives at high levels in the organization

  • Ability to develop clear action plans and drive processes with numerous interdependencies

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including strong presentation skills

  • Strong problem-solving skills, analytical capabilities, and collaboration skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

  • Ability to manage projects with multiple tracks as a high-energy leader

  • Must demonstrate leadership, influence, project management, relationship-building skills

  • Creative, flexible, and objective focused with expert skills in cross-functional thinking and process planning

  • Must have attention to detail, a commitment to quality, be results driven and customer focused

  • Experience in the petroleum industry is strongly preferred

  • Willingness to travel as required for business purposes
