Description


This position is responsible for supporting the deployment, maintenance, monitoring, evaluation and improvement of operational systems that regulate and assure the production of safe quality products. This individual will assist with daily Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Food Safety, and Microbiology activities and supervision. This position is responsible for leading and supporting operational and quality continuous improvement projects, change management, and real-time problem solving. This position will entail providing information to customers and suppliers, resolving customer claims, and providing feedback to suppliers. This position will maintain and monitor systems that assure compliance with and have the ability to perform analyses to standards as described in Cargill’s GLP Program (equivalent to those as described ISO 17025).


Principal Accountabilities


  • 45% - Deployment, maintenance, monitoring, evaluating and improvement of Quality Assurance/Food Safety/Information Management/Microbiology processes and systems.


  • 15% - Support and coordinate quality assurance/microbiology and control systems design-review activities, to assure continuous improvement and alignment with business plans (e.g. application of SPC).


  • 10% Support and coordinate corrective action teams, as needed. Lead and perform problem solving activities, resolve customer claims, and provide feedback.


  • 15% - Assist with daily QA/QC/Microbiology activities and supervision. Including assisting in the performance of QC product control and release functions. Manage and complete QA tasks and work with operations to ensure all quality checks are completed (in Big Lake this will be 50% of the job).


  • 10% - Maintain and monitor control systems that assure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g. PQC, USDA sampling plans, HACCP, SSOP, Non-compliance response and follow-up). Additionally, this position will have the responsibility to report problems with the food safety management system. This position will have the responsibility and authority to initiate and record actions.


  • 5% - Assist with defining training needs, planning training programs and facilitating training for all designated Stakeholders.

Other Requirements


  • Ability to cover for supervisor as needed.


  • Should have experience in auditing laboratory quality and safety plans.


  • This position shall have the responsibility to report problems with the food safety management system to identified person(s). This position has the responsibility and authority to initiate and record actions.


  • Must have flexible hours and be willing to work all shifts, including weekends.


  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of HACCP/GMP/OPRP/PRP policies and requirements to complete all monitoring and/or verifications tasks as outlined in the policies and procedures and ensure that corrections and corrective actions, if needed, are taken per said requirements.

Qualifications


Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in food science, food microbiology, quality assurance or other applicable field; OR 5 years of experience in food safety, quality assurance or microbiology OR 5 years of experience in quality assurance or microbiology lab with the successful completion of the Leadership Development Program.


  • Competency in applied sciences (microbiology, physics, chemistry) and applied mathematics (statistics, algebra).


  • Must have strong problem solving skills and be able to assist the team or lead the team when microbiology, quality, or food safety issues arise.


  • Strong written and oral communication skills.


  • Demonstrated ability to work well on cross functional teams.


  • Understanding of HACCPs and Food Safety Management System.


  • Must have strong attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications


  • 2-4 years’ experience in quality assurance or a microbiology lab in a food manufacturing environment.


  • Experience with problem solving, root cause analysis, and change management.


  • Strong competence in office software applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access.


  • Experience with regulated food manufacturing environments.


  • Working knowledge of FSSC 22000, GFSI certification, HACCP, GMPs.


  • Working knowledge of Quality Systems Management in SAP.
