Title: Supervisor, Software Systems Engineering - 57614


Note: This position may be located in Waterloo, IA; Moline, IL; Des Moines, IA; or Cary, NC per the hiring manager's discretion. This may be dependent on the successful candidate's background, experience, and proficiency.


Your Responsibilities


As a Supervisor, Software Systems Engineering for John Deere, you will supervise a team of engineers who work on the programming ecosystem components, ensuring they have the direction and means to complete their scope of work. In addition, you will:


  • Lead the planning process for programming scope of work and own/manage the backlog of work and work plan to meet customer delivery expectations.


  • Supervise the system design and implementation of new features through the Technology Development Process (TDP) to ensure consumer goals are met.


  • Provide program management for programming ecosystem deliverables.


  • Participates in planning process of new products and/or major improvements to existing products, focusing on project concerns, such as: cost, completion dates, resource allocation, quality/reliability, etc.


  • Assists in the resolution of complex technical issues.


  • Act as liaison and exchange information within the EEG Ecosystem Teams, product groups, and software development groups within the enterprise as needed and appropriate.


  • Provide technical leadership and counsel to less experienced employees within the product functional area and other business functional areas.


  • Gains a thorough understanding of customer requirements and program scope and can differentiate between feature requests, requirements, and engineering changes.


  • Develop, track and meet capital and expense budget for area of responsibility.


  • Performs administrative duties related to performance management, salary pay plan, succession planning, resource planning, training, and development of direct reports.

What Skills You Need


  • Product Engineering design experience in electrical/electronic/software systems


  • Experience leading a Design Team


  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interface to a wide range of technical and leadership stakeholders


  • Experience delivering complex engineering assignments


  • Experience leading collaborative cross functional efforts without direct authority


  • Experience translating user needs into design requirements


  • Ability to create a vision for a future state and drive consensus, collaboration and actions to reach it


  • Ability and willingness to travel, up to 25% (both domestic and internationally)

What Makes You Stand Out


  • Systems Engineering education, training or experience


  • Project Management education, training or experience


  • Experience working with or leading assignments across divisions, platforms, or product lines


  • Detailed knowledge of current controller programming methodologies and associated challenges


  • Experience with our Dealer network and software programming tools and processes


  • Experience with our Manufacturing systems and software programming tools and processes


  • Advanced degree in an Engineering Discipline

Education (or equivalent work experience)


  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering, Science or Technology discipline – preferably Electrical / Electronics Engineering
