Future State for 500P - AAU L4 - Neurosurgery/Neurotrauma

G1/L4 is a 27 bed Acuity Adaptable Unit (IICU and Telemetry). The scope of service includes providing care to adult and geriatric Neurosurgery patients that require cardiac monitoring. The types of post-surgical patients commonly seen on G1 are intraspinal surgery, cervical fusion, chiari malformation repair, laminectomy, tumor resection, intracranial surgery, craniotomy for brain tumors and for vascular repairs of aneurysm, arteriovenous malformations and bypasses for Moya-moya and post aneurysm coiling. This unit also provide care to patients with VP shunts for Hydrocephalus, lumbar drains, externalized ventricular drains, status post head trauma, deep brain stimulators for Parkinson's treatment and spinal cord stimulators for chronic pain treatment. This unit is a Comprehensive Stroke Certified by the Joint Commission.

G1 unit has NCOR, which stands for Neurosurgical Close Observation Room. It is unique to this unit. It is a self-contained 6 bed step down unit for patients with a higher acuity requiring frequent neurological assessment and intervention.

G1 is a Neurosurgical Unit where nurses embrace a holistic, coordinated, multidisciplinary approach to meeting patients and their family's needs while ensuring patient safety and satisfaction. The mission of G1 is to be a leader in providing compassionate, individualized, culturally appropriate, quality care focusing on the unique needs of our neurosurgical patient population and their families.

BSN and CA RN license required. BLS and ACLS required. Minimum 2 years nursing experience in an acute care hospital. Experience with Neuro/stroke and Tele patient populations preferred.
